As it stands, do we have a better midfield than Utd?
DuncanRG replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
I'd be interested to see how Schneiderlin would fare in that team. I suspect he could do quite well, but he's certainly not any better than Carrick. Crazy to suggest so if you ask me. -

Erm, no. -

He must be up to something, only the number one goalkeeper trains. Maybe he's at the Kremlin? -

Will this current squad propel us into Europe?
DuncanRG replied to Barry Sanchez's topic in The Saints
Their job isn't to convince us all that we're ready to challenge for Europe. Their job is to do it, though not necessarily this season. There's a small chance we could get up there, but if we don't then that won't be any disappointment at all. The speed with which you've all picked up this sense of entitlement is unbelievable. -

Is it worth reading this thread? I'm going to guess no. -
Forgot it went to pens and switched off at 90 minutes. Not sure why there are people so concerned - we looked pretty good and made chances in both halves. Certainly should have taken two or three but I don't think we were struggling for incisiveness, at least not in the first half. Besides, it's a friendly - our fitness and workrate looked top drawer and, touch wood on Shaw, there were no injuries.

Or twenty £1m players! That's practically a whole squad of Rickie Lamberts!

If I were them I'd be more worried about Rodriguez. West Brom's centre halves are strong but all the wrong side of 30.

Players since the takeover (July 2009-present)
DuncanRG replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
That's what I mean. What he's done so far is incredibly impressive, most eighteen year-olds don't have any visibility at all in the first team. Criticising a player still in development for not showing what he can offer long-term is pretty silly. -
While Newcastle went into negotiations offering him certain relegation?

The club's launched an official fan's league for the Premier League's game, entry code 863071-208048. Sibley and Lucas are competing! -
You'd have called Remy 'Carlos Kickaball' six months ago.

Here we go! First Team line up against West Brom thread

Davis is one of our standout performers under Pochettino so far. No idea what part he'll play this season but at the moment he's a good choice for the central position. -

Agree with most. For what it's worth I think Martin did a very good job of filling in when Fonte was out for a stretch in the Championship season. Should also point out there's no reason to be sure what 18 year-old Ward-Prowse offers us long-term. -
It would be a nightmare for the ITKers trade union (chaired by Glasgow Saint) if one of their members were assassinated on a balcony.

I agree our forward line is better and that the addition of Wanyama could give us an advantage. Would certainly have rather played them a few games later though, so he had some match time under his belt. -

I'm not sure either is true. Mulumbu and Yacob are the only midfield pairing outside the top seven to rival Cork and Schneiderlin for me, and they absolutely dominated home and away last season. Morrison would walk into our first team and Chris Brunt ain't bad either. They're not rock solid at the back but have lots of experience and are good going forward. It depends on how our new look back four turns out I suppose. Keep up the goal threat (which Shane Long did contribute to last season) and they're still a better team than us. Does anyone know if they're planning on keeping/reforming Odemwingie? If he's off I expect they'll want another striker anyway. Long, Anelka and Rosenberg isn't a top half strikeforce. -
Bale would still be here if then was now - says Ward-Prowse

Why would he have the 'heart or desire' to play in League One when he could play for Arsenal? He's a smart lad, he loves and respects Southampton but no one can begrudge him a move like that.
