The issue with that would have been that he'd just finished the season - the club gave him time to rest and work back to fitness. Clearly he didn't hit the expected levels of performance or fitness. Maybe he was homesick or something? Who knows.

I'd be happy with Lovren and Yoshida as first choice pairing and Hooiveld/Fonte as backup, but I'd be surprised if we didn't go in for someone else now. This Sorenson fella from Bologna? Professional football manager knows nothing of the game

Adkins confirmed he didn't know anything about Forren. How strange - I suppose Pochettino just didn't like the look of him when he arrived. I did notice on the Preseason Uncovered that he wasn't looking as fit as I was expecting, either...

How bizarre. If true then it's been a total farce in the end. I suppose the explanation would be that he was a committee signing but once he got here Pochettino didn't really fancy him. Perhaps he hasn't reached the fitness/performance levels we were expecting from him? Let's wait and see.

Is there any suggestion of that? Didn't happen this season after he signed. As with all these new contracts it will have mostly been about giving him Premier League wages.

If we're going to play all three I wouldn't be surprised to see Wanyama play further forward instead of Morgan. He's a proven goal threat and Cork and Morgan already have their defensive understand locked down.

I'm convinced people wouldn't say this if he had scored a goal off his backside or something at some point in the Championship. It's only the fact he's never scored that makes people worry about it. Anyway, he more than deserves a new deal and if he signs I'll be pleased he's committed to competing with Morgan and Wanyama.

He's a Yaya Toure type, surges up the pitch with amazing strength. I think that's one of the only qualities we could really add to our central midfield, so I'm glad he's signing.

We've typically only made 'economy purchases' so there are going to be many more examples of cheap, successful players than expensive ones.
