Apparently we're not interested in Silva. I think he's the only realistic option that I'd be happy with. Hughes and Bilic may be ok, but I think they're so limited it could give us real problems, and certainly wouldn't want either here past the end of the season. You only have to look at other clubs opinions of Hughes and Bilic to understand. It's all too easy to think other clubs fans are clueless - but they know much better than we do.
-
He didn't 'bring them through' though. He had Modric and Rakitic come through - they are epic players. Nowt to do with him, hence why he's lucky. A lot of players talka good game but aren't good Managers - most recent example being Gary Neville.
-
Agree with this, I'd place Bilic on a par with Hughes in the **** stakes. Bilic built his reputation based on one (lucky) spell as Croatia manager.
-
Yeah, but he hasn't been a player for 18 years. Bryan Robson was a winner as a player. Not as a Manager. It's not a popularity contest no, but we've been told our players are arrogant, disinterested etc - having a Manager they don't like come in won't help one bit. 47 conceded in 22 games 2017/2018 - Last in League at time. Extrapolate out to 81 conceded full season. 56 conceded 2016/2017 - 12th in League (-15 GD) 55 conceded 2015/2016 - 15th in League (-14 GD) Doesn't suggest he's very good at coaching a defence to me, considering he has had money to spend.
-
****ing hell, even his statements are boring.
-
What makes you describe him as a 'Winner'? The 35% win percentage? And what makes you think he'll put a rocket up their arse, as by all accounts he's not THAT sort of manager, according to fans of clubs he's managed. Apparently he's thoroughly unlikeable bloke, incredibly arrogant, doesn't tend to be a motivational manager and players don't tend to like him too much. He left QPR when they were bottom, with a team he brought in, and left Stoke when 2nd bottom, with another team he brought in. He has no discernible style, he's not particularly attacking and he cannot organise a defence. But at least he's better than MP. He is the worst option of the options we have left (of which, admittedly, there are few).
-
Who's going apoplectic about it? Wash Saint maybe, but that's about it. Others are just saying he's not suitable/good enough.
-
It's his prerogative to be as argumentative and sensationalist as he can be. That's what this is, hyperbole and sensationalism to try to mask the fact that his arguments for wanting him is nothing more than selective cherry picking of seasons that he thinks defines Hughes career.
-
Would definitely prefer Silva to Hughes...but doubt it will actually happen. I expect Hughes. I also expect us to still go down if that's who we employ.
-
I think after Pards takes West Brom down, Allardyce nearly takes Everton down, Lambert takes Stoke down and Hughes takes us down that may change...
-
Flair players might, he likes a flair player (Bojan/Arnautovic/Shaqiri). Issue is he can't coach a defence and doesn't play tactics that suit flair players. It's a very odd management style.
-
This is Hughes last chance at a Premier League job without being promoted with a Championship team (imho), so not sure about that.

What, to a multinational team? I bet SAF would have been difficult to understand at times to multinational players, so why's it matter? In relation to the rest of my post I assume you don't understand the concepts of 'floor' and 'upside' then?
-
What's British got to do with anything? I don't give a **** if he's British, Chinese or ****ing Martian as long as they have the requisite experience and 'bump' to keep us up. Why you say why can't he get us into the form that he had Stoke in for top 10 - you're saying why can't Hughes repeat some of his best ever seasons? In this position you don't plan on upside, you plan on floor. His floor is ****ing low. It's why people tend to go for Allardyce/Pulis etc as in general they have quite a high floor, but very little upside. Hughes last two seasons at Stoke have been pretty bad - that's what I'm planning on.
-
Agreed, these would be my shortlist.
-
So what about QPR? Or last season when Stoke finished with 44 points - we sacked Puel with more points and I'm guessing you wanted him out... My 5 year old daughter would be a great appointment in comparison to MP - doesn't mean I'm writing her CV for her though.
-
QPR were in the Premier League at the time. The point with Pellegrino is we can all cherry-pick when someone was good. Stoke finished on 44 points last season, and he had an awful record this season. Nothing to encourage me there. Absolutely not, what makes you say that? I'm just saying Hughes would not be a good appointment (imho). He won't take a short contract (I wouldn't have thought), so we'll be stuck with him for years to come - whether that's in the Prem or the Championship.
-
Or the one that was sacked at QPR? How about that Pellegrino that did so well in Spain?
-
I don't think anyone is expecting a dream appointment, just one that isn't the man who was replaced at Stoke because he was taking them down.
-
He's never been relegated because the teams he's managed have always sacked him before relegation - happened at QPR, and now probably Stoke as well. He's not a very good manager, and doesn't coach a very good defence.
-
The way he did at Stoke?
-
Dutch Manager. Does anyone on this forum actually follow football? Martinez, Pulis, Koeman.
-
Silva til end of season (and he goes to Everton), then Brendan Rogers.
-
Oh, well looks like my bet on Saints to go down is safe then with Hughes...
