  1. It's incredible how wasteful they are. Blows my mind the money they throw around and waste. Saw this on another forum. Lloris £16m Walker £5m Alderweireld £11.5m Vertonghen £9.5m Rose £1m Dier £4m Dembele £15m Eriksen £11.5m Alli £5m Lamela £26m Kane £0 academy Spurs starting XI total £104.5m Paul Pogba £100m
  2. True, we would've been closer 15/16 and closer again 16/17 but still a massive gap. Using Liverpool since they're the main ones taking our players, in 14/15 their matchday and commercial incomes were £59m & £116m respectively, compared to ours of £18m & £10m. So ignoring the TV deal (which they also get more TV games) they still earned an extra £147m. We earn a pittance from match tickets and sponsors. Our biggest income is the TV deal followed by selling players for profit.
  3. 2014/15 turnover: Man Utd £395 Man City £352 Arsenal £345 Chelsea £319 Liverpool £298 Spurs £196 Newcastle £129 Everton £126 West Ham £121 Aston Villa £116 Saints £114 This talk that we don't have to let our players go and can match wages with bigger clubs is naive. We can't. We earn about a third of the money Liverpool do. With so little we need to spread it evenly around the squad. If we put too many eggs in 1 basket the rest of the squad suffers. The method we use of buying in that £10-15m bracket to have a balanced squad is the only one likely to work. We'll continue trying to buy low sell high and hopefully grow closer to the big clubs.
  4. They brought in an instant red card for swearing in my local league a few years back. I think it quickly became too much paperwork and was abolished by week 4 lol Would love ref's to be tough on players crowding them though. Can't stand it. Up there with players rolling around overplaying bad tackles.
  5. I've been thinking the same. 5 players all wanting to start in the front 3 - Long Austin JRod Tadic Redmond 5 players all wanting to start in mid - Davis Romeu Clasie JWP Hojbjerg (+Reed) Defence is sorted with depth unless the club wants to sell someone and upgrade them. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a GK and that's it. It's a solid squad with options. We're not going to challenge for CL but we can have a decent go at EL and aim for top 7 in the league while knocking off a lot of that £60m club debt.
  6. A lot of us were a bit taken aback by Long's transfer fee. In the next month we're going to see some real average players go for well over a Shlong. A lot of teams still looking for a striker. Arsenal - Striker, CB? Chelsea - Possible Costa replacement Crystal Palace - Striker Everton - Stones/Lukaku sales and replacements? Goalkeeper Leicester - They've replaced Kante, but lots of rumours circulating about other players wanting out. Could still get picked apart. Man City - Apparently Pep wants 2 new CB's which would be strange given Kompany is a rock for them. Man Utd - Pogba should be their last bit of business in, quite a few players going out. Stoke - Striker WestHam - Striker West Ham have it the worst. They want a marquee signing but no way they can land any of the big fish the top clubs might go for. They won't settle for a player with "potential" like Berahino. They want the finished product and I think they're going to have to pay a fortune for someone just below that top echelon.
  7. I'm with you there. I'd like to see it reinvested to strengthen the squad and there's still over a month for that to happen. I just disagree with all the people saying we're weaker than last season. The club goes about their business patiently. It'd be nice to have the squad complete before game 1 but it's better not to get drawn in to the crazy money being thrown around elsewhere.
  8. Austin's 18 at QPR + Redmond's 6 last season = 24. Pelle's 12 + Mane's 11 last season = 23. Add £35m in our bank account to use elsewhere. What's the problem exactly?
  9. People do realise Austin scored 18 goals in his premier league season with QPR right? Pelle only managed 12 and 11 in his 2 years. You look at Austin's record in the 3.5 seasons before he joined us and he scored 70 goals in 119 games. That's consistent and prolific. The mini-meltdown asking where the goals will come from is bizarre. Pelle has been replaced with about as good as we can get.
  10. Hard worker and consistent from what i've seen. Plays as a winger but he's always had an attacking fullback in Piszczek with him for both club and country so he comes inside a lot. Seems to fit the formation/style being talked about. Too old for us though?
  11. I don't think many of their fans were worried about their attacking talent at the end of last season. They were definitely complaining about the team defensively with Mignolet/Moreno and Skrtel still getting some games. If this Wijnaldum figures true then they've spent ~£60m on 2 attacking players and only £9m on GK/CB and still stuck with Moreno. Poor business in my eyes.
  12. Better to say we're generally happy with the squad and will only go for good deals then to yell WE'RE RICH LOOK AT OUR WARCHEST WE'RE GOING TO SIGN A BIG NAME STRIKER. While the latter might sell a few more season tickets it might cost a bit more to bring players in. I think we'd all be surprised if the club didn't invest a bit more in the squad given our net transfer spend is ~+£40m. Backup GK, decent attacking RB, attacking mid. and still make profit.
  13. I guess what I mean to say is they're making signings that are arguably not starting XI. Wanyama's a bargain but £17m for Janssen to play second fiddle to Kane and £21m for Nkoudou who has a lot of competition to get a start. They're increasing their depth with CL but not really improving their best 11. I'd argue they already had some depth for those 3 positions and definitely had the cash to make a big signing or 2.
  14. Spurs window looks ok on paper but is it just me or are they building a really big squad more quantity over quality? They did the same the last time they got a big cash boost (Bale sale) and ended up filling it with plodders. GK Lloris Vorm RB Walker Trippier Yedlin CB Alderweireld Vertonghen Fazio Wimmer LB Rose Davies CM Dier Dembele Wanyama Bentaleb Mason Carroll AM Alli Eriksen Lamela Chadli Son Onomah Nkoudou ST Kane N'Jie Janssen A lot of them are young too. Their development will take a big hit not getting to play.
  15. Agree. Koeman wants that Dutch NT job too much. Too fixated on paying massive overs for Dutch players. £30m for Witsel? lol. £25m for Wijnaldum? lol. Would laugh if they paid £20m+ for Blind.
  16. Fair play to him. Southampton know how to make dreams come true. Lambert to Liverpool. Fonte Portugal Euro winner. Pelle Italy #9 & 40m euros.
  17. Good interview. Am I right in saying he speaks 4 languages (French, English, German, Danish)? I really like that the club makes an effort to sign and develop intelligent players because there's so much more to life than just football. Seems pretty clear that he knows at his age he needs to play 90+ minutes each week so we could hold on to him a few years even if he proves a huge success. Welcome Pierre!
  18. Wait until he retires, heaven forbid he has a fallout and joins Liverpool.
  19. None of the academy players were making the matchday bench last week. Squad was too bloated for the clubs liking. I wouldn't expect In's to match Out's this window.
  20. €25m to his agent? I laugh but agents are a big problem in football, especially when it benefits them to have their client constantly move and sign new deals.
  21. I wouldn't think knowing how to defend is a big requirement for a Barca fullback. More important how well they cross and bomb forward. Can see Cedric fitting that mould.

    Euro 2016

Doesn't matter how many class players you have if they're always disjointed. Hodgson picks names first and then makes a makeshift formation to get them all on the pitch. No structure. No system for the players to learn. Same old England
  24. I have faith in Les and the club to make the right signings and keep us going but the club really needs to work on its PR. The interviews where Les said Koeman would re-sign, Clyne would re-sign, we're keeping our players blah blah blah only goes to reinforce our image of a weak selling club. The reality is we're not a weak selling club. We've gotten some amazing fees for our players. But the club prefers to treat us like idiots and embarrass the club and its fans by saying 1 thing and doing the opposite. There's no shame in acknowledging when the price is too good to turn down and then promote our scouting network and ability to find replacements for less.
  25. Can't complain with the price. It's the same as Arsenal paid for Alexis Sanchez a couple years ago to put it in perspective. If we held on to him we'd be forced to sell next season for £15m. Other positive is the business is done early in the window so now we have 2 months to find the replacements for Vic&Mane. New manager will have some cash to bring in players he likes.
