Our ambitious club is 20th (yes bottom) in the net transfer spend table (past 5 years)
Burnley, Swansea and Hull - pah ha every club in the premiership have a higher Nett spend than us..... Shocking
Nett spend we were 17th or 18th and that was before our transfer activities this summer (circa £40m up)
Only Swansea, Burnley and Spurs believe it or not had a lower Nett spent last 5 seasons coming into this window.
Spurs net spend this summer is -22m and Swansea -5m so right now we would probably be 19th or 20th in the Nett spend table.
I was looking at the odds earlier and returns on United are very low - rightly so as they are clear favourites tonight.
Only bet I will take is United -1 which is just below evens. £45 returns £85 and will at least mean I watched the game live n for free
Samsies mate, good post.
I'm going to start the drive to Manchester in an hour and I am almost dreading the scoreline tonight - just leaning on the faintest of hopes that Puel can surprise me somehow.
Our only hope (IMHO) of avoiding a hiding tonight is United playing poorly..... Horrible not having destiny in your own control.
It's a tough time for posters like CB cry just now, the forum and Saints fans generally are fairly united by frustration and disappointed.
We were all just hoping that we can get through tomorrow evening without too much embarrassment and hope/pray we bring in 2 or 3 quality players before the window shuts.
I think we will sign one more minimum, my worry now is who and genuinely how far down our wanted list we now are.
We have clearly missed some of our top targets and my worry now is we panic buy or pay over the top for someone way down our original list.
Our club are very very quick at selling players, seemingly we still think it's 2011 when trying to bid and sign players.
Can see so many parallels with Newcastle in 2013. After finishing 5th they sold Ba and tried to be a bit clever in the transfer market. Finished the next season in 16th and never really recovered.
It's horrible to watch us having so little ambition, I genuinely don't think we will get a chance again like we've just had.
I don't get to attached to managers or players as they don't tend to hang around too long at SFC.
I support Saints not individual players/staff
Who is your fav player Charlie?
Romeu is not yet the finished article that's obvious but he needs a run in the side and some of Puels magic.
If anyone can make Romeu top drawer it's Puel IMHO. Look at what he did with Thierry Henry, Ben Arfa and Vincent Koziello
