Ah, my mistake Jaime/Brett. I thought you were making a sarcastic comment about Russia’s timing of the invasion and it being telegraphed to the rest of the world beforehand. I didn’t realise you were being serious. You clearly have more knowledge about these things than I do, it’s is just that if you want to launch a successful invasion it seems to me that an element of surprise is helpful, you know, like D Day. Surely arranging a full scale invasion of another country to coincide with it catching the major news services in the west can only give the defending forces a heads up? Johnson knew exactly what he was doing when he initially accused Starmer of personally being responsible for the non prosecution of Savile. Mud sticks and that is exactly what has happened. A move straight out of the Trump Book of Slurring Opponents. Some Tory MPs have the decency to see it and call it out for what it is, but it is sickening to see his brown nosers still saying that there is no need to apologise as he has ‘clarified’ his remarks. To also say that yesterdays attack by a mob had nothing to do with Johnson’s remarks is absolute tosh. Why would they suddenly start referencing Savile when it has not been a major current issue until Johnson made it so? It is deflection if the highest order. To borrow a very apt quote “it comes to something when the most embarrassing PM of our time isn’t the one who has fucked a pig”.

And that is because I assume that the club feel happy at the moment that we have a squad that can compete against the likes of Newcastle. The result is the issue here. We now have the prospect of facing a stronger side and therefore a lesser chance of winning. If we had played them at the time they would have had a much weaker squad and we would have had a greater chance of winning. Once the game was called off we were always going to have a tougher match anyway as they would have a fully fit squad again (probably). We would have done exactly the same as Newcastle had the circumstances been reversed would we not? If not it would have been pretty foolish not to. If the guidelines had been different when we played United you can bet you life the club would have tried to get the game called off. The fact that a transfer window has opened in the meantime is coincidental. The game could well have been rearranged before Newcastle brought any new players in. Having said all of that, aren’t the EPL looking into the situation? Yes, they should have done so before the window opened and made the situation clear, but isn’t it still possible that they will say that newly transferred players will not be eligible for these rearranged games?

Is it though? We have also had the opportunity to strengthen our squad in January. Say we had brought in an upgrade on Forster, Bednarek and Redmond and we’re putting in much better performances. Assuming that the argument isn’t just that the new Newcastle players sit out the rearranged game because it was Newcastle who had the game postponed, how would you feel about us leaving out our new, better players too? There is also the point that we could well have lost against them originally and could well beat their upgraded team instead. As they say, football is a funny old game. If it had been us struggling to get a team out and had the game called off then went a bought a load of new players, how would we feel about not playing them in the rearranged fixture? It isn’t as if they have gone out and bought a load of world class players and are going to suddenly field a top six quality team. There isn’t one player they have bought so far that we need to be afraid of. Frankly I would rather us play (and ideally beat) a strong Newcastle team than quibble over whether it is fair or not that they are now in a position to play us with different players.

My point is what does it matter? The record books and league tables reflect the final score. It makes no difference who scores first does it? Unless your an obsessive for stats. If it was the other way round and Ralph got the most points from a losing position would he be hailed as a hero, or just a manager who was constantly battling back from a losing position and therefore flawed? Each to his own I supposed but if you frequently score in the early stages of the game it is obviously that the other team have a better chance of turning it around does it not?

As opposed to a corner taken and scored by two of their current players? We are playing Newcastle United and need to stop them scoring no matter which names are on the team sheet. What if we signed Messi and Ronaldo in this window? Happy for them to play against Newcastle?
