  1. Clearly we do not. Socrates and Plato also talked about how tyranny can come from democracy via the use of “populism” which Trump has done so well so far. We look on in horror (well, most of us do) at what Trump is doing in the US, but we are currently heading in the same direction. The rise of Reform in the polls and the rise in airtime given to populists is equally horrifying. Not only because of the growing support, but how the old established parties are reacting to the threat and dancing to Farage’s tune. Throw in general disillusionment with mainstream politics and politicians and it is a recipe for disaster. Farage screwed over the country ten years ago and a large number of people either have short memories or never learn their lesson.
  2. Mick Channon?
  3. It is no spin. We clearly can’t at the moment and I don’t see the point in pretending otherwise. We weren’t ready for the Prem last season and we are not ready to go up again this season. Wherever we end up, I just want to see a team who is able to compete at that level and hopefully push on. No club can guarantee success no matter how much money they spend and who they spend it on. They have to rely on the planets aligning and doing so season after season. Like most clubs, ours are not doing so currently and for a number of reasons as we know. This is my 60th year of supporting the Saints so I have probably finally learnt to live with the fact that we are never going to be an Arsenal or a Manchester United and accept that things could always be worse!
  4. Pushed the boat out yesterday and bought a take away curry! The other cut back was getting rid of one car. Not ideal as there is virtually no public transport worth using around here but we/I work around it with help from the neighbours, some of whom are retired so are around for lifts during the day if needs be. The Mrs takes the car to work but it is only a couple of miles down the road so if I need the car for the day I drop her off and pick her up so not the end of the world and saves £££s. Things could be worse.
  5. I suppose the question is what do you prefer, mid table mediocrity in the Championship or being cannon fodder in the EPL? This season might not be great but at least we have won some matches and are generally competitive. I’d take this season (so far) over last season any day. Honestly, what is the point of going up if we end up getting beaten week in week out again? The EPL is not the be all and end all. To state the obvious, there are more clubs outside the EPL than in it and people still turn out to see the lower leagues.
  6. We avoided a banana skin, unlike the previous cup winners, and are through to the next round. Could be worse.
  7. She smiled at the other ICE officer and said “I’m not mad at you dude” just before the other guy shot her. Just after he shot her you hear him say “fucking bitch.” The information is right there yet some people are still defending her murder.
  8. Get Baz back!!
  9. Going to the pub. It is only over the road and used to be full of locals but since Covid, not so many go regularly. Coupled with the cheapest wine going from £15 a bottle to £28 and lager now over £6 a pint and it makes more sense to stock up at the supermarket and drink at home. We also used to have lunch out every weekend but those prices have nearly doubled too. Why pay £15 for a cafe burger when you can buy two Wagu burgers in Tesco’s for £4? It is a shame because it is obviously affecting small local businesses, but our joint income has been dwarfed by the cost of living increases so things we used to do regularly become an occasional treat.
  10. It is just as well that they bought Alaska from Russia when they did.
  11. If it doesn’t matter, why comment? You seem pretty happy and relaxed with the abuse of power Brett.
  12. This isn’t the National Guard. They are taking non illegal citizens off the streets and deporting them. How long has that been going on for?
  13. Yep, she recklessly reversed her car and turned the wheels hard to the right, accelerating slowly forward, avoiding direct contact with the agent, with her window wound down. That is a death penalty right there.
  14. That’s ok then. Have they been putting poorly trained quasi military groups into their towns and cities for decades too or removing their own citizens from the country by armed thugs?
  15. There is a clear video clip showing the wheels of the car turning away from him, him planting both feet (not jumping out of the way) and firing through the windscreen. As the car passes him he then fires twice more through the side window. Not knocked to the ground. Not ending up in hospital. Just rattled by two women who possed no obvious apparent threat to his life. He and his fellow agents then prevent the shot woman receiving medical aid. The lack of concern for the life of a citizen of the USA from Trump and his cronies tells you all you need to know. If you are not with us, you are the enemy.
  16. Musk is now saying “any excuse for censorship.” So he is absolutely fine with his platform being used to make sexualised images of non consenting women and children because that equates, in his deranged brain, with “free speech and freedom of expression?”
  17. Gotta love these true patriots, eh? https://www.thenational.scot/news/25738100.tommy-robinson-calls-donald-trump-invade-uk-venezuela/
  18. “We had whistles. They had guns.” We are watching this in real time just as generations before us watched their societies being abused by sociopathic leaders. At some point the millions of decent US citizens will have to do something. Enough is enough.
  19. More bollocks from Trump. Greenland is under the NATO umbrella. There is no way that Russia or China is going to take Greenland without WW3 breaking out. His supporters will suck it up though. Never under estimate the number of people who will follow deranged morons. https://www.reuters.com/world/china/trump-says-us-needs-own-greenland-deter-russia-china-2026-01-09/
  20. Good question. Cortese was clearly high on the narcissist scale and his behaviour could well have soured their relationship after a while. Marcus didn’t spend a fortune on us but what money was spent was spent well at the time. Would he have been prepared to spend the kind of money to secure a long term successful run in the EPL? I may have got this wrong but I think that he said that it wouldn’t necessarily be a long term project for him? We will never know of course. What we do know though is that, if Cortese is a football genius, he seems to have escaped the attention of any football club seeking a genius CEO.
  21. Greenland is ours if we want it. Venezuelan oil is ours if we want it. The Western Hemisphere is Ours. We decide who runs Venezuela. Agree to my deal or face crippling tariffs. Federal agents can gun people down in the street in cold blood with impunity because I say they can. I say the election was rigged therefore that is true and anyone who says otherwise faces a prison sentence. Nothing “dictatorial” here at all, no sir!
  22. 1. This thread is specifically about Donald Trump not Joe Biden. The particular discussion was about what Trump had actually done. It had nothing to do with what Biden may or may not have done (and what we do know with 100% certainty is what he actually did not do whilst President). 2. You have absolutely no idea what my opinion would have been if Biden, when he was POTUS, had done what Trump has done now. 3. It is extremely immature and myopic to accuse someone of only supporting the actions of people they “like” when they have a 20 year posting history with plenty of examples of criticising the actions of people they “like.” 4. You say that you see things “for what they really are.” Not only is that statement purely subjective, it is also made a lie by your support of many discredited conspiracy theories 5. Another immature statement. You have no idea if I would have supported Biden if he had done what Trump has done. You have just constructed another conspiracy in your head and posted it as a fact. 6. You absolutely are a Trump apologist. You have never criticised anything that he has done and let’s face it, he is open to a great deal of criticism. You are often the first one on here to defend his latest disastrous decision or action or throw the TDS deflection around. 7. For someone who does not support any of “them” you spend a lot of time either doing so on here or avoid criticism of “them” when they are open to it. 8. When Islamic attacks occur I have called them out of extremist atrocities. How do you equate that with justification? A very simplistic and childish reaction. Let me make it easier for you to understand the difference between an apologist and someone pointing out an obvious disconnect. A certain poster on here spends a lot of time posting about brown skinned, Muslim rape gangs. You will not find any posts from him about white non Muslim rape gangs. Why one and not the other? Pointing this fact out does not excuse the actions of the former group of men. It highlights a very clear bias. I have asked the question many times (and of you). Is the rape or murder of a women more serious if carried out by a brown skinned Muslim worse and more noteworthy than if committed by a white, non- Muslim? I know you think that you have a greater intellect than the rest of us, but good luck with trying to explain how you confuse this with apologising for the criminal actions Muslims. Once again I have handed you your arse served up on a silver platter. 🤗
  23. Duh! The point was that if the people wanted him gone it is their decision, not Trump’s. Laughable? Have you not been paying attention to how Trump has and is ignoring the checks and balances that the American constitution has in place? He ignores the sovereignty of other nations. He is happy to kill his own people. Ok for you? As for buying me a dictionary, perhaps check the spelling of Xmas before you think that you are scoring points.
  24. Could be? I just remember that he was very bitchy towards her when she won. Still, he has his FIFA Peace Prize now 😂.
  25. I am not sure replacing one dictator for another is a benefit for anybody other than the new dictator. It does really matter whether I think his removal is a good thing or not, it is down to the people of Venezuela isn’t it? It should be their decision, not mine or Donald Trump’s. It would be a good thing if the likes of Trump, Putin and Netanyahu were removed IMO, but the choice again should be down to the people.
