The Starmer Years - Can The New Broom Sweep Clean?
sadoldgit replied to sadoldgit's topic in The Lounge
I don’t disagree, but as soon as you bring up immigration you will invoke the ire of the growing number of xenophobes and Reform voters. -
Artists you should (apparently) like but don't

Again, another embarrassment for Farage from his flagship council. They promised to slash waste and make savings, now this… https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/dec/20/kent-council-reform-condemned-spending-thousands-political-assistants

With the birth rate dropping surely it makes more sense to encourage people to have more children? It’s that or increase immigration and we know what a hot potato that subject is. -
Just for you Whelk, to show that I do understand the purpose of this thread… Tesco running out of our favourite wine when the 25% off offer for 6 bottles or more is on. 😘

To come on and give us pace when Scienza is knackered and comes off?

I also “pony up” for a load of rubbish I don’t want to watch on streaming channels. What did Springsteen say? 57 channels and nothing on. The BBC offers a great deal more choice across than many media organisations. I don’t think that anybody disagrees that there needs to be changes, but there will always be some who will find fault just because they hate the BBC. When I was growing up all I heard was that it was run by a bunch of “Commies” (“Pinkos” to some). Now all I hear is that it is run by those of the right! For all of its faults, this country has been better off for it.

I see the forum curmudgeon has got out of the bed the wrong side this morning again. Liz Truss is small and she annoys me. Ok?

I’m going for a 2-2 thriller with us hanging on for dear life in the final 10 minutes.

Exactly. Perhaps we could ask that Mr. Putin starts to treat the rest of the world with respect.

I don’t think that anyone believes you Vlad. https://www.nation.com.pk/20-Dec-2025/putin-vows-wars-west-treats-russia-respect

I’m partial to Sainsbury’s sausages, especially the Toulouse ones. -

I find it amusing that people with no idea like your posts. -

The BBC have also raised millions and millions of pounds for charity through Children In Need and Red Nose Day. DIY SOS helps to change lives. The BBC covers so many bases. We should cherish it, it has been part of what defines this country for decades.

Down Cemetery Road. For those of you who like Slow Horses, this might be of interest.

I am never sure if you are on a wind up, are being deliberately obtuse or just don’t understand the points people make. Whatever is going on with you, it is a waste of time and effort.

The flagship council still an embarrassment to Farage. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2025/dec/19/reform-run-kent-council-accused-blocking-scrutiny-claim-saved-40m

When I was a kid and there was only two then three channels they always used to put on great Christmas specials and keep the big films back for Christmas week. Pre video recorders there was always a big debate about what to watch. They don’t seem to bother too much now.

You really need to have a look in the mirror mate. Those programmes were made half a century ago. Mrs. Brown’s Boys is being made now, 50 years on. What you really do not understand is the huge difference in the quality of the writing and intelligence of the level of humour in both Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Fawlty Towers and Mrs. Brown’s Boys. Both of the former were pushing the boundaries of comedy. The latter is trading on the dregs of the worst of the past. You haven’t just shot yourself in the foot, you have made yourself look even more clueless than before, which is some feat. 🤪

I popped into Sainsbury’s earlier to buy a “This Christmas I’m identifying as a transphobic, homophobic, xenophobic twat” to send to you but sadly they had sold out.
