If Maduro is convicted on drugs charges, could he expect a pardon from Trump? https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5671135-pelosi-trump-venezuela-maduro-charges/amp/

An excellent read and an example of why Farage and his cronies are becoming more popular here. "I’ve been watching an absolutely heroic amount of pearl-clutching lately from people who insist that J.D. Vance would somehow be “worse” than Trump once Trump’s inevitable political and biological expiration arrives. Let’s get something straight: it has never been about Trump, not for one second. Trump is just the mascot. The real story is the people who finally saw themselves in him and felt validated by what they saw. I actually believe most of them will drift away when the cult collapses, like embarrassed fans of a one-hit wonder. Many of them will swear they were never really into him at all. The MAGA amnesia is going to be epic. I used to wonder how it was possible that Trump could have won in 2016 and then again in 2024, given how emotionally toxic, morally vacant, and psychologically mangled he is. I don’t wonder anymore. I think he won for that exact reason. He wasn’t a candidate. He was a mirror. If you were a racist, you found your guy. If you were a misogynist, you found your guy. If money was your only religion, you found your guy. If your heart was armored shut, you found your guy. If you mocked disabled people, you found your guy. If you hated intelligent people, you found your guy. If you were a rapist, you found your guy. If you enjoyed golden showers with Russian sex workers, you found your guy. If you’d done absolutely nothing to confront your emotional wreckage, you found your guy. If you were a serial cheater, you found your guy. If you were a perpetual bankrupt, you found your guy. If you stiffed honest workers, you found your guy. If you were a conman, you found your guy. If you mocked people’s appearances, you found your guy. If you longed for a toxic Daddy, you found your guy. If you were dissociated and disembodied, you found your guy. If you were unconscionable in every economic dealing, you found your guy. If you lied as naturally as breathing, you found your guy. If you’d never eaten a green vegetable, you found your guy. If you were a white supremacist, you found your guy. If your ego contained a hole so large not even the presidency could fill it, you found your guy. If you were a sociopath who cared not one molecule about other humans, you found your guy. If he had only two of these traits, he never would have won. He won because he had hundreds of them, and millions of people recognized themselves in at least one. This has never been about Trump. It has always been about the people who finally had their worst instincts validated. Trump didn’t create the cruelty, he licensed it. He handed out permission slips for hate. He is merely a symptom of a far deeper disease: collective toxicity. If there is one sentence that explains Trump’s power, it is this: “He says the things I’m thinking.” That’s the part that should chill the spine. Who knew that tens of millions of Americans were thinking such unconscionable things about their fellow citizens? Who knew how many white men felt so threatened by women and challenged by minorities that they were ready to torch democracy to feel big again? Who knew that after decades of apparent progress on race and gender, so many people were living in seething resentment, waiting for a demagogue to legitimize their worst selves and convert their bitterness into political power? Perhaps we were living in a fool’s paradise. We aren’t anymore." – Michael Jochum, Not Just a Drummer: Reflections on Art, Politics, Dogs, and the Human Condition.

A friend of ours has a couple of his original paintings hanging on her walls. And yes, they aren’t anything special. -
We are exactly where we deserve to be and without an inspired transfer window this January I can’t see that changing very much.

Whilst I look for the world’s smallest violin, it is worth reflecting on just how much the Telegraph has morphed into the Daily Mail over the last couple of years. -
Nic laughs at everything that he doesn’t understand, which is pretty much everything, and at posts about dead women and children.

Anyone seen the film The Producers by Mel Brooks?

Hilarious. I hope that you don’t get prostate cancer.

Part of Maduro’s indictment accuses him of possessing machine guns and explosive devices. 1. As Head of State it is unlikely that it is illegal for him to posses such items in his own country. 2. He was kidnapped by American forces using, you guessed it, machine guns and explosive devices. 3. Given the amount of firearms available to buy in the USA, he sounds like he would be right at home there.
-
Anyone got anything positive to say about him?
-
Sorry to hear that Whitey. Sounds nasty. I have been on drugs for a long time that are supposed to shrink the prostate? No needles so far thankfully. I hope the biopsy goes well for you.

A great twist to bring in the secret traitor but have they ditched the idea already with the secret traitor joining the regular two next week? Unless they plan to bring in a new secret traitor now? Very impressed with some of the Faithfuls so far. Early days still but some are right on the money.

Waiting For The Out. A new BBC drama series that kicked off last night. Only one in so far but brilliantly scripted and acted.

Another far right outfit to be concerned about. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jan/04/leading-uk-far-right-activist-russian-nationalist-event-mark-collett

Yet you continue to swallow conspiracy theories and the lies the people you follow hook, line and sinker. Go figure?

I was living in SE London at the time and most of the kids in my class supported Palace so I used to get a lot of stick when we played each other. A few years on I ended up playing against the Palace right back in this game, John Sewell, in a Sunday morning park match when he was playing for an amateur team called Lessan. I thought he was rubbish at Palace but despite his advancing years and waistline, none of us laid a glove on him all game.

A new year but the same old drivel from nutty nic. 🙄 -
It’s about the drugs not the oil eh Donnie? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/03/us-oil-trump-venezuela Apparently Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado doesn’t have the respect of the country and he suggests that she will not be leader. Of course not, Trump will put his puppet in place. For those who think it is a good idea to vote in Farage as the next PM, maybe think about the consequences a bit harder?

There was a poster called Old Ottery who used to post on Sotonians a while back. Can’t recall if he was OSM though. K, Billy’s supersound. A proper ITK back in the day.

Minty! I remember that he used to report back from the training sessions and got into trouble with the club because he “leaked” a particular routine (from a corner I think?).

That when older people talked about having to get up in the middle of the night to pee, they weren’t joking.

What a nightmare. You would like to think, in this day and age, that there would be stricter fire precautions in place. A young girl died in a house fire in the next village to us, Hamstreet, over Christmas. It is a relatively small community. My wife’s boss lives in the village and knows the next door neighbours well. They are devastated and that is one child. I can’t imagine how the deaths of 40 people affects a town. The house is a semi on a new estate. It is terrifying how quickly the fire burned through a new house.

Can NATO trust Trump and where does this leave the UN now that the USA have a power crazed idiot at the helm now showing not the slightest pretence of giving a feck about what any body else thinks? Still, not to worry, it’s only Trump Derangement Symptom apparently. 🤪 https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/jan/03/putin-russia-us-foreign-policy-venezuela
