Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
Harry_SFC replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
He's a perfectly capable centre back when he's playing alongside 2 others as his lack of pace isn't as exposed as much. Seems like he's starting to cut the silly mistakes out now. He's actually very good at bringing the ball out as well - would like us to sign another CB and have Stephens and Yoshida as cover. -
Cedric Soares - Official: Loaned to Arsenal

His crossing is horrendous yes but his defending certainly isn't a problem in my opinion. How many times does he get beaten by an opposition winger? Sometimes struggles slightly positionally but he is more than capable for a club of our size. I'd prefer we kept him as I'm far from convinced about our recruitment strategy of late. -

Exactly this. We've done it to ourselves by leaving it so late in the day to sack Pellegrino. Not exactly enamoured by the appointment but I feel as if we have more of a chance under Hughes!

FA Cup Qtr Final Saints v Wigan or Man City AWAy
Harry_SFC replied to John Boy Saint's topic in The Saints
If Spurs beat Rochdale (I'm sure they will) then their game with Swansea or Sheffield Wednesday is almost guaranteed to be played on the Friday night. That just leaves early Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Personally I'm hoping it's the Sunday. -
I thought the midfield did well in general, Ward Prowse and Tadic were actually very good today. Very shaky from set pieces - Jack Stephens just isn't good enough in the air or physical enough to be a first choice premier league centre back. We know we can play well against the better sides but we're always let down with a shocking display following on from these. The Brighton game is seriously massive now.
-
This is it for me. We've seen it all with our good friend Jack. Its basically just taking the info thats already out there and adding in little bits that sound believable in the hope that it happens and the poster in question then claims 'ITK' status and 'I told you so'
-
Generally he's a very good defender. Tonight has been a bad night all round.
-
To say Tadic was "very good" today is pushing it a bit I think..
-
Thought he got the team selection wrong today. We are far too negative when both JWP and Davis are playing in the same team. We lacked control in central midfield, especially in the first half. One of Lemina or Hojbjerg should have been in there. At least he pulled Ward-Prowse off at half time, which certainly improved us.
-
I'd get rid in January and re-invest in a few quality replacements. Hoedt has been better than him in the majority of games I've seen.. He clearly isn't bothered.
-
This is the sort of player he is though, he will give the ball away now and again. I don't mind him trying something different as long as it's in the final 3rd of the pitch.
-
Great result and performance albeit against a shocking Everton side. I'd read much more into the Bournemouth game next Sunday.
-
I think his time is up
-
Agree about Rodgers. Think we could get him but maybe not until the end of the season?
-
I think he's out of his depth if I'm being honest. A similar negative style to Puel. Les Reed should be partly responsible for this. Firing one guy and getting someone else in who plays exactly the same style!?
-
Pellegrino is taking us nowhere. Another massively conservative manager. Happy to keep the ball and doesn't want to see us taking any risks what so ever. Another boring season in store I'm afraid.
-
Tadic slows us down far too much. He just hasn't offered enough for over a year now.
-
This could be a massive blow
-
True about the tactics. I would like us to mix it up a bit now and again, I like the fact Pellegrino wants us to pass the ball about but there are times you need to go a bit more direct and turn teams around, especially away from home. By direct I don't mean 'hoofing it', I mean playing the ball into the channels for one of the strikers (as both have decent movement). As you say though it does depends on the oppositions tactics (high line etc)
-
Same team as Saturday except Boufal in for Tadic. Long to keep his place upfront purely because it's away from home where we may need to get in behind their back 4 a bit.
-
He clearly has confidence in his own ability, yes sometimes he does a little too much but I certainly wouldn't say he doesn't play for the team. He tracks back a lot more than Tadic and must be better for team morale than having Redmond in the side who moans at his teammates 24/7.

If you call letting in pretty much every other shot on target into the net then yes just the occasional mistake.
