AP says we have too many players in our squad. So how do we get rid of them? In the office it used to be by taking away their desk and chairs. Like in the Paul Simon song, what suggestions do you have? 1. Just slip out the back, Jack 2.........(over to you)

Problem solved, lol. Does AP know?

From the OS: 'Saints boss Alan Pardew looks set to make several changes to his side this evening as Saints go in search of their first win of the season… New signing Graeme Murty may travel, but is rated as doubtful with a dead leg picked up in Saturday's 3-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town. "I will probably introduce some fresh legs because we've got games thick and fast and it's a demanding start to the season, but we've got to start picking up points," Pardew said.' So perhaps Gillett is going to be recalled. I would fancy our chances more if he were to start.

Yep, and a bit more milk powder in the coffee too while they're at it.

Sadly the reality of last season's legacy means we are now at the lowest point in our football league history. But at least there are signs of a few green-shoots. If we can win at Swindon (or whenever we get our first win in this league) I'll believe the recovery is beginning.

Immediately before a crucial match - everyone was gob-smacked and deflated. No wonder we lost when we might otherwise have had a good chance of winning. Downhill all the way from then. It might have been necessary to warn fans of impending cost-cutting, but the timing was catastrophic. Those guys had no idea about the psychology required to run a successful football club. They were no better than Lowelife.

McGoldrick's main attribute, imho, was not as a frontline striker but as a midfielder who could score goals. How I wish we had his muscle, tackling and distribution abilities in midfield right now.

There never has been a manager at SFC called Pardrew.

I see Swindon were founded in 1879, the previous decade to us. They must be one of the earliest clubs. (Oh, and my forecast revised to 1-1)

Survival for Southampton, is it to be.....?

Surely you can put it more positively than that, FF. There can be no doubt that MLT's motives were to save Saints (though he was duped).

This is laughable from the poster who causes more dissent than anyone else. It is not unrealistic to expect a strengthened squad that can compete sufficiently to survive the difficult relegation struggle ahead. Next season's rebuild can wait.

Wotton at the back instead of Perry might be ok in the circumstances. Neither can jump, but Perry gives penalties away for Christmas presents, and surprisingly he is the more knackered of the two. Wotton can tackle and hoof the ball away at least. The trouble is we have a very weak spine and Schneiderlin, like Mellis, is a playmaker (which would be good alongside a tall, tough tackling creative CH which we don't have). I would give Gillett another chance there. We don't have better. Lloyd must be in the squad, so he should be on the right instead of Mellis who is sub for Schneiderlin. Beggers can't be choosers I would love to see Saga do his business, but he hasn't scored for months now and simply doesn't want to get hurt before his transfer. So it has to be Paterson imo. I would be overjoyed if we managed a draw.

Gillett wasn't a sub.
-
Just as well we have a bye. We have more time to rebuild the side to League 1 standard.
-
Mellis is similar to MS and needs to have a tough creative structure around him in order to be able to perform to his best. He is like so many of our youngsters. Promising, though more talented, however relatively inexperienced, and his baptism of fire in league 1 must have been a shock to him. He was not the right sub we needed at that time, unless Morgan was injured or tiring. Gillett would have done a better job in the circumstances.

Rubbish

I wish we had Pompey's players right now.
-
I do expect more. We should not have lost by such a big margin.
-
I hope that a condition of bringing in loanees from top clubs is that we are not obliged to always play them. An 18 year old in the middle is not wise, no matter how good a prospect he may be. Gillett would have done much better.
-
There was nothing good in losing. He knew that already.
-
53 minutes (Score 1-1): Saints Subs: Morgan Schneiderlin & Lloyd James OFF - Jake Thomson and Jacob Mellis ON. Was this the main reason we turned a draw into a heavy defeat?
-
Unless Gillett is injured or performing very badly during training , I don't understand why he wasn't in the squad. He would have added bite and energy to the midfield, that's for sure. Much preferable to Wooden.

Lowe will finally be history when we have cancelled out his minus 10 points, AND survived this season. His poisonous legacy is still with us.
