Didcot Saint Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 I may be wrong but in this day and age, in football money talks. If ML is serious enough to want to get us to the Premier League, then, admittedly, without being held to ransome by greedy agents, we need to pay decent wages for the right players. Stern John would have scored a hatful in League 1 and so would Rasiak. If we are not prepared to pay decent players what they are looking for, then with our youngsters having hardly any experience, we will not get out of L1 let alone the CCC. We must keep our best players and be prepared to pay them what they are asking. I think we should have paid SJ what he was asking or am i barking up the wrong tree? The Godfather Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 I was under the impression that money wasn't the issue. Money wasn't the issue, the division we play in was the issue.
Colinjb Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 We are in League 1, we have players here who feel they are better then that and are not willing to stay unless they are on silly money. A lot of what is wrong with the game is due to over spending on wages on generally dissinterested journeymen, the term 'professional' footballer is very much a contradiction in terms these days. If they want to go, let them. We don't need to be a selling club anymore but neither should we be a final payday for a mercenary. We need hungry and determined players to get out of this league, and we should be able to attract ones of half decent quality. Let the players who don't want to carry their weight go. saint_stevo Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 (edited) Yawn Could you not moan on one of the threads already alive? What's to say, no matter how much we offer people don't wanna come play for a team just recently out of turmoil starting on -10? Your a player, we offer 5k p/w, ANY another L1 club offer the same and that is immediately more attractive. AP and ML have gotta sell the club and its plans to players to get them in, even then it will not be a given Edited 30 July, 2009 by saint_stevo
Saint Fan CaM Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 You're right of course, but be prepared to be hung out to dry for suggesting there's anything to be concerned about - i.e. we've been saved therefore L1 football is OK. I too am a little concerned that all our so called better players have left or are leaving. And we've signed one player. But it doesn't matter how you dress it up, the old addage of you pay peanuts you get monkeys will always be true. Tomorrow is going to be interesting - I hope. I agree but we are short of strikers and last season lack of goals was our failing. All ia trying to say is if we have strikers why let them go short term for a few grand? I get the impression SJ would have stayed if the deal was right.
Fan The Flames Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 Maybe players need to get a bit more realistic when so many people are having their wages frozen or cut.

Rattlehead Posted 30 July, 2009 Share Posted 30 July, 2009 I expect ML would rather spend the money on Messi. John is going to feel pretty stupid soon.
