ponto1963 Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 (edited) Looking back through the results over the last few years we need 90 points plus to ensure promotion. So we need 100 points for the season. Wigan got 100 in 2002/2003 with the following results. P --- HW --- HD -- HL ---- HGF - HGA --- AW --- AD --- AL ----- AGF - AGA ---- Points --GD 46 --- 14 --- 7 --- 2 ----- 37 - 16 -------- 15 --- 6 --- 2 ----- 31 -- 9 ----- 100 ----+43 when you look at it like this we could really do it :-) Edited 10 August, 2009 by ponto1963

Crowds Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 I think Midtable at xmas a couple more additions in the jan window and a good push for top4 i think is do-able. I mean if we are higher at Xmas even better!!! I keep looking back at Sunderland when Keane took over and i think if we get the team gelling and those 4 players we're linked with. Then i dont see why it isnt a possibility. Crowds.
SfcPhil Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 We wont get anywhere near 100 points.. we're end up on 70 or so IMO.

kpturner Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 Not this year chaps, unless by the skin of our teeth. Highly doubtful.
S-Clarke Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 I'm sure we'll give it a good go. We'll have a successful season whatever way you look at it though. (i.e - we'll bloody well win a few games for a change) + if we don't' go up this year, next year we really may have a chance at ''Walking a league''
chrisobee Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 Just happy we are building a good team on solid foundations and odds on we win more games than we lose. Would be nice of course to reach the play offs and we may do even with the 10 point deduction. That said it is a shame we could not have prepared better and sooner but in the overall scheme of things I can certainly live with that. Fair to say this is the most optimistic I have been for a number of seasons and also fair to say there is plenty to be optimistic about.
dubai_phil Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 The squad is weak, the fitness levels are too low for this league. We are developing a new style of play and new formations with players who haven't appeared to have had any "grown up" coaching for the past couple of years. We are bringing in 3 new players already with possibly more on the way. It will take us 3-4 weeks to get playing and possibly longer to get into teh type of winning habit that Wigan had. Be realistic, and celebrate existence and having a very good season with a chance of the play-offs. Start building un-realistic aims of being top at the end of the season and you will build moans and groans when it is too slow coming and that will start the drip of negativity. This season is gonna be a hell of a ride, sit back and enjoy it for a change and MAYBE leap for joy at the end of it.
Micky Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 Do it the AP/MLT way - small goals at a time, get to zero, out of the bottom 3, mid table and then see how much season is left. Realism is the order of the day - talking about auto-prom at the moment is rather over optimistic in my opinion.

Would like more strength but bet not many teams/supporters in league 1 would look at us and say we are weak Edited 10 August, 2009 by NickG
lee_saint Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 I have a feeling we could go up.....talking to few mates over the weekend who support Carlisle, they said both them and Brentford are utter sh*te.
Rasiak-9- Posted 10 August, 2009 Share Posted 10 August, 2009 When you think about it - Sunderland had 0 points from their first 4 games the season they were promoted and Leeds made the play-offs with a minus 15. Burnley got promoted last season despite 6 losses on the bounce so all we really need is to have a season like they did without going on an awful run and we should have every chance of making the play-offs. Put it this way - without a -10 I'm sure people on here would be hopeful of a top 2 finish. Most teams that finish in the top 2 would finish in the play-offs if you took 10 away from them at the end of the season. - I reckon we can do it.
