swannymere Posted 13 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 13 August, 2009 Let me guess, you've either got somebodys stray pigeon from that area or it's a long training toss? The first bit, under the instructions of the owner i kept it for 10 days to get it back to good shape, let it go when the winds were SW and the bloody thing is back after 5 days! The owner lives in Worksop which is kind of on the way to Hudderfield. Oh what a great thread, bound to make the Golden thread forum if ever i have seen one! I hope so, fame at last:D
hamster Posted 13 August, 2009 Share Posted 13 August, 2009 My Grandfather was a very succesful pigeon fancier in his day, and was from South Emshal (not far from t'udderfield). Mum has a box full of his certificates and rossettes from his prized birds. Us Southerners may joke, but pigeons, ferrets and whippets are still very popular pastimes in those parts. Incidentally, any 'Last of The Summer Wine' fans could use this weekend as an opportunity to visit the village where much of the series was filmed in Holmfirth.
