NickG Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 Read article this week saying how random results are over first 8 games of the season and how statistically they have least bearing on how a team will do over the season compared to any other 8 game period. Had comments by Graham Taylor saying he always felt that players weren't match fit and you didn't have true idea of how your players were going to gel until after that period. Considering our unusual preseason and the signings now coming in this is worth remembering. Also Pardew has only just had a backroom team.
S-Clarke Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 Watch it Nick, you'll be labeled a happy clappy - and they just talk rubbish apparently. but i agree. it's only 4 games FFS.
NickG Posted 22 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 22 August, 2009 I was very disappointed today and don't know if how we will do this season but think its far too soon to moan about Pardew and his team.

Sorry I dont Look at the Premiership table the better teams are at the top and the poor ones ie Pompey are at the bottom I did not moan last season as we had no money to bring in players but surely this season is different and things appear worse

The point is that, statistically (ie FACT), they have the least bearing. It's not up for discussion as it's true??!!

Glasgow_Saint Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 Where were Hull after 8 games last season I wonder and Spurs?? hmmmm.... One or two exceptions but after 8 games teams who win most are generally the best teams! Excuses are getting weaker....

Interesting !.. as my own assessment had always been the first SIX games, but I totally agree with the theory. Of course, it takes time to settle in, and all this *rap from disatisfied fans who claim we have six new players and... why don't we have results... is typical.(!) With the exception of Kelvin Davis and Chris Perry there was hardly a man wearing the shirt today who was even a registered player here on August 1st. This is the largest change of personnel in the clubs entire history. Those of you with Saints history books ..check it out and see. Of course it will take time for them to develop into a team, it's just a pity that we started -10....but now it's up to AP to build a new team. But I'm sure he realises that the majority of those who were here when he arrived were either ; too young / inexperienced to have affected last year's tragedy......OR were collectively responsible for our relegation. Wait for the 8 games to be played ..and re-access then !

It's only 8 games... It's only 15 games... it's only 20 games... it's only 36 games, it's only 42 games... oh ****. The quicker we get our act together the better, but yea 8 games to gel and get fit sounds about right.
WestSaint Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 Players have been arriving since the start of Pardews tenure and are gradually strengthening the team. To assume that players are going to suudenly become overnight sensations when they are not used to playing together is naive. It will take time but it will happen. The boy done well Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 We are getting better IMO. Except for Davis this is because of the new players AP has brought in; not because any of our pre-existing squad. I would agree that we now need to add some pace and width of which I am sure AP is fully aware. It's much too early to make any proper assessment yet. Don't panic.
