...looked like this when he arrived.

Davis

James

------

------

------

Wotton

------

------

------

------

Lallana

..and, of these, only Davis would have been a first choice selection. Assuming that most of us think Saturdays result was one of the best (and most satisfying) so far this season, the remainder of the line-up are his own later acquisitions, who are just coming together. (and Papa Weigo and Jaidi have barely played 4 games each)....I think AP 's done a good job.

I do hope our more impulsive fans will realise that very few clubs win every game just because they have bought a whole new team. (Yes, I've followed Man. City results but Mark Hughes has top class players in his Premiership squad ..who would doubtless be kicked to death in L1, too).

That is worth pointing out. I was going to comment on the players scores thread, but it had all already been said and I largely agree with the positives.

One thing I noticed on Saturday, and I commented on it after about 15 mins (but it had been there all those 15 mins), was the organisation and efficiency of the team. When defending, we were tight and formed up. When we won the ball, we had an out. As we pushed forward, we were more positive and direct.

You can say that Gills were a bad side, but, one thing we have failed to do in the past, is to press home our advantage. We didn;t let Gills off the hook this week, and we never faltered, even after their equalizer.

I'm not saying Papa is the complete player, and I'm not diminishing the 8 and 9 out of 10 for the other players, but, having an outlet on the wing, where we can pop one over the top and get their defence turning, was a real change! When we were under any pressure, there was this out. Pop it over the top. Sometimes Papa would get there, sometimes the defence were under pressure and had to play it out, giving us good position in their half.

Wotton was assured and measured and deserves a mention. Did a good job in there and made the game tick.

I hope AP can keep this momentum going, we need to. We looked like a team on Saturday, can we look a team again when we are losing?

It has to be said that " very few " players are great from day one and it takes some time to settle in - not to mention that after playíng in Italy all his career ...then League 1 must be " a bit of a change " to say the least.

....then again there's the langauge, too....does Papa Weigo really understand our tactics ?

Man City players would be kicked to death in league 1????

What is this myth that the lower down you go the more you should be scared! I'm sure most the Man City players could handle themselves against league 1 teams, that's why they became top players, they have talent and strength. The only thing that really changes as you drop down the leagues is the level of talent.

Most of those type of players were playing top class football (in one country or another ) whilst still in their teens.

I didn't say they would be scared, but lets face it the skill level is pretty basic, and some of the fouling is deplorable to say the least. I can't forget the terrible fate that befell Marian Pahars, a crippling tackle in a pre-season " friendly " practically finished his career on the day. Can't recall who the lower league opponets were though ?

I'm not even sure that this league is more physical. In relation to the skill level, yes, but not in general.

As soon as one of our players tries to throw his weight about he gets a free kick given against him.

Thats exactly what a mate and I were discussing on Saturday, that this league we have seen teams play football far more than last season.

Teams seem to at least try and play the ball around rather than some of the hoof merchants we saw last season.

Of course there are one or two exceptions like Colchester who were the worst team I have ever seen at SMS.
