A BIG christmas thank you

There has been a lot of praise about our new owners and rightly so I feel so proud the be a sotonian.

But I have to say that I do find that when people criticise the 'bad times' everyone from that period get a lot and I really mean a lot of stick. I'm mainly talking about Leon Crouch and also McMenemy, I consider both top blokes and I'll try and explain why;

Leon Crouch, A true fan and did what he could, I think he paid out of his own pocket for the Ted Bates statue after the first one was seen as, well it was pretty poo, also without his money keeping our club going for the few months before the takeover, we would have no club, and let’s face it he is not as rich as ML by a long way and this money was a huge gamble with the only possible return was saints survive. BIG thanks for that.

McMenemy, I think that this man was as important to us as LeTissier in the way he did business getting some great players to come and keeping us in the top flight after getting us there, although as I was born in 82 and missed the massive FA cup win I also wish him all the best.

I know we are in dreamland with the new owners and I would not change it for anything but without these two that I feel sometimes people don't appreciate we would never be in this position.

I got tickets on boxing day for all my family (brothers, dad) and we be having a pint and if I were to ever meet LC or LM I'd def buy them one.

Happy Christmas and COYR

Well said, Joesaint. I completely agree with your sentiment. Whatever they have done and whatever achievements/mistakes either men have made, they have done in the best interests of the club, just as much as for themselves.

They will always have my respect.

Spot on

I agree 100% both men are saints through and through. Both have made mistakes and i was absolutely devastated when Lawrie left southampton in 1985 but the reason it hurt so much at the time and left me hurt and angry for so many years afterwards is because he achieved so much at southampton and was almost impossible to replace at the time. Anybody fortunate enough to have met either Lawrie or Leon in person will confirm their true love of the club. And of course you are right that we are in dreamland at the moment with our new owners and it appears we could not be in better hands.

By the way what is Leon Crouch up to at the moment?

It is shame ML did not get involve when Leon was trying to get investment

Too many shares to buy from the disparate three, and getting them all to agree as to what biscuits should go on the boardroom plate was nigh impossible, let alone agree a sale of shares in which they all had their own interests!

As things have worked out, the situation could not be better now. We are well run by a professional team and all sign of the destructive in-fighting and inertia of the past few years has been swept away.

I wish Leon well as he did his bit but have to say that I am glad that he and certainly the other two + Hone and Co are no longer part of the decision making of our club.

Lawrie will always be a hero !

This time last year the out look for our much loved club was starting to look bleak, Lowe still playing with his train, the Dutch in charge of a team without a leader, the fan base split. Christamas and New Year came and went along came relegation and administration and the end was a stark reality. Then the take over happened, new manager, new hope and a team that we are all proud to support once again, Merry Christmas Mr Liebherr, Merry Christmas one and all.
