Progress behind the scenes...

With so much focus revolving around the first team and the squad, the League, the JPT, FA Cup, are there any updates on what is happening with other areas regarding the Club?

With the exception of the new facilities being built for Staplewood does anyone know of other exciting developments happening behind the scenes?

Just wondered where we are now with scouting networks, coaching for the reserves and Youth team/Academy?

Can we hope to see progress also with improving the Concourses, Facilities, Marketing, Club Shop, Merchandise, and other areas of the the club that are usually furthest from our minds when watching the season unfold on the pitch before us.

It always makes good reading on the rumour mill for new player signings but are there any for matters other than on the pitch for the goings on behind the scenes at St Marys too?

Scouting has definately improved, I have two friends that play in non-league football, one for Hayling United (16 years old - onvited for training) and the other is a 17 year old at Gosport who turned a move down to Spurs a few weeks back. Saints have been in contact and have been brilliant in the treatment of them.

I think we will see more changed next year, however the scouts always seem to be out in numbers, I had one at my team I take which is Under 8's.

Question from Glasgow Saint:

"How much are they going to cost?"

Question from Glasgow Saint:

"How much are they going to cost?"

Hayling striker: The club wants £8k so we can relay the pitch down here, as its not up to league standard, its shocking, Saints offered £3k. I THINK.

Gosport striker: Spurs offered £15k for this lad, he turned it down, has a very good footballing Dad behind him who knows what he's doing and they both agreed Spurs is'nt the best idea footballing wise. Saints just made an enquiry..... He is the grand-son of Chelsea legend Bobby Tambling.

I have 3/4 very good players. The rest :/ well at least they try!!!

Nice to hear about talent - even at that age.

Some "sage football-type " wrote years ago, that if youngsters don't have it by the time they get to teenage- then they won't make it.

A bit of an over-exaggeration I suppose, but close to the truth.

Occasionally, a Theo Walcott will appear as a late developer but very rarely.

Good luck to your young talents though, they've got a long way to go.

(Michael Poke was on Saints books before he was 12... and 12 years later,

he's out on loan...too good to let go, but not good enough for the first team.)

Got no problem with us scouting 16/17 year olds, but under 8's?! I think that is slightly irresponsible as regardless of what their parents tell them they will be thinking "I'm going to be a professional footballer!!".

My son was scouted by Pompey last season he was 6. Been training with them weekly for several months, until they closed the development centre.

He didnt/doesnt think "im going to be a professional footballer" he's a kid, he likes playing footy with his mates, and anyway, you'd be amazed at what they can teach kids of that age. Nothing wrong with it.

Nice to hear about your son BB, but look at it this way...

maybe it was a blessing in disguise ...I mean...what Saints fan would want his son to play for ...P-P-P-P-POM.....sorry I can't bring myself to say the name. Perhaps he'll be happier playing with his mates, and you won't have to live with the shame...

As far as I was concerned he was training with a nameless "Premiership Club".

It was a pretty pitiful letter, all of their centres have been closed. They really are flat broke, renting fleming park for an hour a week cant be that expensive surely!

I hope Saints kids scouting has picked up again, because it has been pretty non-existent.
