david in sweden Posted 24 February, 2010 Share Posted 24 February, 2010 in the squad, I don't think so. Some people were complaining about the surplus of players in the squad, but with the current injury list, it's a good job we have them all. Murty (sadly) is out for the rest of the season, Connolly's return is long overdue. Schneiderlin out, so too is James. We know Seaborne is new - but he's unavailable because of injury. Thank goodness that Hammond is back and that we have the three of the newer players fit enough to play. Without them, " the rest " look, for the most part, like last seasons leftovers - and we all know what happened then. None of the younger bunch look good enough to come in permanently -another repeat of last season - IMHO it's a good job that AP bought those he did when he had the chance. Pity he didn't get Danns though. Apparently, the Palace manager persuaded him that he had a better future staying with them. ..(well at least that was before they got their -10 point deduction) , and so he'll likely be playing football in L1 next season ...no matter who he's with. Saint_clark Posted 24 February, 2010 Share Posted 24 February, 2010 I think the problem is too many players who aren't up to it, rather than simply too many players.

Danns will move to QPR with Warnock along with a couple of others. Probably already knew that when he turned us down (or so they say)
Window Cleaner Posted 24 February, 2010 Share Posted 24 February, 2010 Too few quality central midfielers. Too many average squad players. First 11 is very strong. yep but with a nigh on 60 match season you can't expect them all to be fit all the time. We needed to decide our priorities before the Cup runs, if NC now wants a play-off place this season he should have said so back in November. alpine_saint Posted 24 February, 2010 Share Posted 24 February, 2010 I think the problem is too many players who aren't up to it, rather than simply too many players. Agreed. I cant even put an 11 together I am completely comfortable with.
up and away Posted 24 February, 2010 Share Posted 24 February, 2010 We have an exceptional squad by league 1 standards. The problem we have is a manager that is too slow in figuring out the priorities. Looking at the Norwich and Wycombe games epitomises this, all the good and all the bad. Take Lallana as a classic example, so much energy against Pompey in the cup and carried that on against Norwich, only to disappear against Wycombe along with a couple of other players. If we only had one game a week maybe things would be ok, but previously we have had similar issues. Our run in to the end of the season is similar, so I would expect not much change but to factor in home advantage. I keep hearing this bollix from Pardew about teams raising their game against us, completely forgetting how we drop our own performances to such a level to make this point moot. If you do not have midfielders that can defend as a unit properly you are always going to have issues. Bust a gut a put in the high energy levels and you can offset that problem, but there seems to be an issue in doing that twice a week.
SFC Forever Posted 24 February, 2010 Share Posted 24 February, 2010 Too few quality central midfielers. Too many average squad players. First 11 is very strong. On last night's performance you could perhaps show me where the strength lay.
