Introducing football to Brazil...

...anybody have some facts on John Miller and any continued association to Saints or Southampton. I've done the wikipedia search but the article seems a little light on content.

My son is embarking on a 4th grade project focusing on Brazil - he's to young to be illustrating his appreciation of Brazilian women, that can wait until next year.

Thanks in advance!

God is Brazilian: Charles Miller, the Man Who Brought Football To Brazil [illustrated] (Hardcover)

by Josh Lacey

In 1894, Charles Miller arrived in Brazil with a pair of boots, a book of rules and a football. When he reached Sao Paulo, he was shocked to discover that no-one knew how to play. So he marked out a pitch, gathered twenty young men, and divided them into two teams...Today, Brazil are the greatest exponents of the beautiful game, and Charles Miller has been all but forgotten. This book resurrects his story and is a gripping narrative of one man's love of football and the clash between two very different cultures: the foxtrot versus the samba, the stiff upper lip versus swinging hips, Britain versus Brazil. Josh Lacey uncovers the history of the British in Brazil while narrating the profoundly moving story of a man who gave a country its greatest gift, but lost everything his heart, his soul and even his wife to that seductive country.

Another Saints link to Brazil - the only non-Brazilian born player ever to play for Brazil was born in Southampton.

Sidney Pullen is believed to be the only foreigner to have played for Brazil. Pullen was born in Southampton in 1895 but his family emigrated to Brazil. Pullen played for Flamengo and won five caps for Brazil in 1916 and 1917.
