St Marco Posted 17 April, 2010 Share Posted 17 April, 2010 Just over a month ago we were 22 points behind then 4th place Colchester. The fact if we win on tues will see us a point ahead of them is a pretty huge turn around if you think about it. We have gone on an amazing run of games and they have imploded. I remember awhile ago some people were saying how great a team they were and how much of a great job their manager had done etc.. If you look at it now you have to say the opposite. Boothroyd has made some poor buys in the window and has fallen apart at the worst possible momment. Based on the last 8 games they have averaged 0.62 points a game and sit 3rd to bottom in the form guide. While we sit 1st and average 2.37 points per game. If we put that over the current season that would see us joint 1st with 89 points, that is including the -10. That is a pretty amazing stat. One i think some people have ignored. Where as Colchester would be on 26 points and sit 2nd to bottom. In 2 weeks Colchester play Huddersfield. For us to get into the playoffs we need Huddersfield to either lose 1 and draw 1 of their final games. They cannot win 2 of those games or it is impossible for us. Which means realisticly we need Colchester to do us a favour. If we win all our last games it does not matter how many Colchester win as we will be a point ahead of them. If Huddersfield beat Stockport which is obviously going to happen as they are poor then it means we need Colchester to beat Huddersfield. If we win all our games, Colchester beat Huddersfield and then they draw to Exeter means we go into the playoffs. So i hope they start picking up form because if they go into that game like they have in recent games Huddersfield will pick up their 2nd win and we won't be able to get into playoffs. So in a weird way Colchesters fall from grace can effect us getting that last spot.
ludgershallsaint Posted 17 April, 2010 Share Posted 17 April, 2010 I said to a mate earlier that, actually, a draw for Colchester would have been a better result. If Huddersfield beat Stockport then they will only have a slim mathematical chance by the time they play them.
toofarnorth Posted 18 April, 2010 Share Posted 18 April, 2010 Or we need charlton to only pick up one point or swindon to pick up none. Not imossible.

It is also worth noting that over the last 6 games we are top of the form league with 16 points but unfortunately for us it is Huddersfield who are surprisingly second with 13 then Norwich Millwall and Swindon are on 11 Chrlton on 10 and leeds on 9. Lets hope Huddersfield get the jitters!

I wrote a thread last month talking about the " implosion factor "(if you want to call it that). We now see that Colchester are one of the "traditional " two top teams who lose form dramatically in the run-in...but Huddersfield are the real stumbling block for us. Charlton aren't doing well either, and they looked poor yesterday v. Norwich. losing 0-1 at home. It will help Saints most... if Hudd v. Colchester is a drawn game

Colchester is a drawn game No it won't .Colchester can only get a maximum of 77 points and that point coupled with the 3 Huddersfield will certainly get against Stockport will put them onto 78 leaving them just needing 1 from a 90 minute bore draw against Exeter, whereas we would be better off with them needing to win at Exeter to be sure of making the play-offs. Colchester don't matter,Leeds will take care of that, anyway 77 max won't beat our 78, which is what we'll get.

Think they will need points to guarentee safety, an old saints boy in charge, I have a good feeling

We have seen in our 2 games with them what a pain Exeter can be defensively, if Huddersfield just need to drift through and take a point it will be easier for them than trying to get a win.Which is why we need Colchester to beat them because Stockport certainly won't. Agreed. My point was hopefully Exeter will need 3 points regardless of what will do for Huddersfield. A last game against a team who need to win to survive is not easy. VectisSaint Posted 18 April, 2010 Share Posted 18 April, 2010 It will help Saints most... if Hudd v. Colchester is a drawn game It will help Saints most if Colchester win against Huddersfied, we can overtake Colchester if our own results work out, but we need Huddersfield to lose at least one of their remaining games, and Colchester is the most likely team to do that. bender Posted 18 April, 2010 Share Posted 18 April, 2010 I reckon Uddersfield will get a draw and a win against Stockport and Colchester mean we'll need Exeter to beat them. Could happen.
