70's Mike Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 Due to health reasons I had to watch game on Sky yesterday. To all those at game was the pitch smaller, in width, than last season. It was just that on the TV there appear lots more grass for linesman on Kingsland side

70's Mike Posted 8 August, 2010 Author Share Posted 8 August, 2010 Paying more attention to the size of the pitch than what was going on it when you have to watch from home for the first time in years everything appears to take longer and my observations came from the amount of time Plymouth took to take throw ins, the pitch just looked narrower. i was hoping a regular tv viewer would have answered rather than a silly comment
Whitey Grandad Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 Yes, definitely narrower. I pointed out to my daughter that you could see where the side lines used to be. I think maybe almost two yards shaved off either side. Not only that, my seat in the Kingsland is normally two yards to one side of the half-way line an yesterday I was looking straight along it. The ref even had to have a word with Button because of his constant drinking at goal kicks.
latter day saint Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 The ref even had to have a word with Button because of his constant drinking at goal kicks. i'm surprised he had any left in his bottle as Connolly kept drinking it at every oppurtunity. inoffthepost Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 As the pitch was dug up during pre season I don't think you'd notice previous markings because it's new grass. I gues the pitch could have moved left to right though.

bpsaint Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 My seat in the Northam was still in line with the touchline running parellel to the Kingsland stand so can't say I noticed it had moved, and as inoffthepost said the top layer of the pitch was dug up pre-season so there's no way you'd be able to see the old painted lines. I could see a definite darker streak along the edge of the pitch which I concede may reflect the way that the new pitch was laid rather than demarking the old touchline. Having said that, the pitch was definitely narrower than it used to be a couple of seasons ago. I can usually tell by looking at the spacing between the 10-yard tick on the goal-line and the edge of the penalty area. Out of interest, was all the grass replaced, or just the playing area? Whitey Grandad Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 I guess the pitch could have moved left to right though. My daughter first noticed this. She hasn't been for a while due to maternity leave and saw that the halfway line is now to the right of the players' tunnel. We should be able to tell from videos of old matches. Deppo Posted 8 August, 2010 Share Posted 8 August, 2010 I think they've just moved all the seats a bit further back.
