saintscottofthenortham Posted 15 October, 2010 Share Posted 15 October, 2010 Can we go watch? Is it still free? It's been donkeys years since I went down staplewood to see a Reserve game and I see fulham are coming down soon and quite fancy it.
The Kraken Posted 15 October, 2010 Share Posted 15 October, 2010 Never mind Staplewood. Remember the days when we played reserve games at St Mary's and once got a crowd above 10K against Spuds? And almost the same against Arsenal. Heady days indeed. Bring back free reserve game weeknights!! Although, Im not sure the cost benefit analysis of opening up the turnstiles against Forest Green Rovers for a rainy Tuesday night encounter quite stacks up..... saintscottofthenortham Posted 15 October, 2010 Author Share Posted 15 October, 2010 I do remember indeed. Also remember watching Chelski reserves at SMS, Carlton Cole scoring a 14 minute Hat-Trick. I did love the week night reserve games at Staplewood though, the freezing winter evenings watching a free game of football and sipping scolding hot chocolate. And that Spurs game was certainly more, there were loads outside well after kick-off and a decision was made to just open the main gates and let everyone pile in, I believe it was 10k that actually clicked through the turnstiles. There was another big attendance for the ressies against Spurs many years back at the Dell when Keegan turned out.
paulwantsapint Posted 16 October, 2010 Share Posted 16 October, 2010 Chelski 3-3 Carlton Cole quick hat trick then BT started playing Chelski were glad of the point as whole itchen started to sing All the players used to go down staplewood to watch reserves play on those cold winter nights & spend entire game signing autographs & chatting to fans

West Ham Res.? Both sides beefed up their starting line-up for the two legged tie, and although we lost the away tie 0-1 ....but the Dell game brought in a crowd of around 16,000 ...and we won 3-0. Those were the days - when the "stiffs " could field good sides, too.
