Ken Tone Posted 17 December, 2010 Share Posted 17 December, 2010 So did Barnard have a hernia op or not? Radio Solent this morning said he had been back in training, along with Chaplow and Richardson, with the implication that he was in contention for Walsall. Surely a hernia op would keep him out for a few weeks, otherwise why on earth wouldn't they have operated earlier, rather than keep him only half fit for months? Anyone know whether he is fit? We certainly need him.
sotonjoe Posted 17 December, 2010 Share Posted 17 December, 2010 I don't think there was a full blown op as such. Adkins spoke of their being a couple of treatment options and that one had been used experimentally to see how he gets on. I'm guessing an op is the second, more major, option. merrimd Posted 17 December, 2010 Share Posted 17 December, 2010 Doesnt a hernia op keep you out for a couple of months? I think the idea is to try and nurse him through to the end of the season and get him sorted during the summer.
doddisalegend Posted 17 December, 2010 Share Posted 17 December, 2010 I thought we played caggey with players fitness issues to throw off the opposition? maybe the club are just hinting to confuse the oppostion management as to the team we might play, then again maybe not. Rather have Barney playing than not playing though same with Chaplow.

latter day saint Posted 17 December, 2010 Share Posted 17 December, 2010 can't remember in which thread but somebody said last week that he had an injection to try to help with the hernia problem & that it had gone well. maybe this was the treatment option Adkins was talking about? Ken Tone Posted 17 December, 2010 Author Share Posted 17 December, 2010 So in short, we don't know, even though some posters claimed last week they had spoken to him and he'd had an op. Ordinary human beings would take a couple of months to be fully fit, but I'd have hoped that a pro footballer with access to every sort of medical support ( ) would be ready to play in a few weeks.
