supersonic Posted 25 April, 2013 Share Posted 25 April, 2013 Le Tiss came on for the last 8 minutes, bit of a cameo. only touched the ball about 5 times. Surprise result - but much deserved for CWU - better team won. Heard about it 2 days ago and wondered why no team list had been released by GFC
The9 Posted 25 April, 2013 Share Posted 25 April, 2013 Unfortunately for them the fixture backlog is really starting to hurt them now, they only have 5 games in hand on the leaders and are 18 points behind, last 5 results have been LLWDL (in the last 9 days). They are at least finally up to 2nd. They now have the mentalism of playing Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday this "weekend". They've already played 12 matches this month ! I know what you mean, but the team is usually announced the evening before or that morning if it's an evening game. There was no announcement on the team which only heightened the rumors. The payers, look knackered already - no so much physically, but mentally. We'll do well to go up
La BoIS Saint Posted 26 April, 2013 Share Posted 26 April, 2013 Used to live in Cobham and went to the ground a few times. There wasn't even a stand. Shame I'm not around, would have been fun to see.
melmacian_saint Posted 26 April, 2013 Share Posted 26 April, 2013 Must be dreadful flying almost day in, day out from the island to play a game, no wonder they're knackered...

To be honest the coach trip from the airport probably takes more time than the flight and would be the tiring bit. Even playing Sat/Tue/Thu/Sat for ONE week (never mind near constantly for about 2 months) would have wiped me out even in my 20s, by the third match you're sick of the sight of a football and go into preservation mode, that has to have a major impact on their ability to win matches - and at this time of the season even the blister management must be a nightmare. You have to have recovery time at any level or you just pick up injuries. How many teams actually go up from the Combined Counties Prem ? Is it just the one or is there a play-off with other leagues to get into the Isthmian ?
SuperMikey Posted 26 April, 2013 Share Posted 26 April, 2013 My local team Hartley Wintney are in the CCP, they actually beat South Park last night who were absolutely flying. They're playing Guernsey away on May 4th, so perhaps MLT might get a little run out against them

Is it just the one or is there a play-off with other leagues to get into the Isthmian ? at the moment its FRI/SAT/SUN/WEDS/FRI/SAT/SUN and it's a strange one promotion - could be 1 or as many as 3 (depending on what leagues have spaces and if club's grounds are up to standard) GFC won't win the league, but they may go up as "best runner-up" and their ground has already been approved for the level above
