I'm under a bit of pressure from mrs duck and thought that I would use the vast knowledge available at saints web to help me out.

 

Basically, I'm sick to death of the all inclusive holidays that mrs duck books for the family. We go to lovely places, Greek islands, Cyprus, ECT and then spend the whole time in the complex. The food is pretty good ( one thing I insist on ) but the drinks, ****ing hell, the lager makes saints ale from a plastic glass taste like a Camra award winning ale , and the wine could easily pass as anti freeze. Its so dire I nearly went tee total last time.

 

Anyway, to get to the point. The mrs has agreed that I can pick our 2014 hols , so would appreciate some suggestions and advice.

 

The reason she likes all inclusive is basically the kids. We have a 14 & 15 year old and she likes the fact they can get food, drink , ice creams at any time, without me moaning that they had one 10 mins ago/spilt the last one / its too expensive ECT ECT. Its also nice for me and mrs to grab something occasionally as well. What I object to is sitting in the same restaurant in the same complex night after night. I like to look about in the evening, see a bit of the town, eat in local places and have a few decent bevys.

 

My idea would be an all inclusive resort/hotel, but in an area where local cusine is reasonably priced. The kids can do their normal, but me and mrs duck can eat out 6/7 times, whilst having the all inclusive to fall back on.

 

My question to the well travelled forum members is, have they done this and is it feasible.

 

Personaly I fancy Portugal, is it cheap to eat out and does anybody have any recommendations. The non negotiables as far as the mrs is concerned are : must have beach access, must be good for teens and must be guaranteed hot weather in late July early august. Doesn't need to be AI , but she would need some convincing if not. I've suggested self catering or b & b with me giving the kids money for food ECT each day, but she reckons im a tight wad and will still count how many they've had . All in all I reckon about 4k for the 4 of us is about what im willing to pay, including food for 10 days.

 

Any suggestions would be greatly received, as I have till September 2nd to decide otherwise its off to another (admittedly nice) Greek, Turkish or Cypriot complex to sit night after night drinking lighter fluid .

Mrs Duckhunter - Overbearing wife, eye for the young waiters. Kinda like Marlene from Only Fools. Catchphrase: "Ooh, what a beefcake!"

Duckhunter Jr #1 - Slightly older than his brother, has a pack of Rothmans hidden in his room and rides a scooter.

Duckhunter Jr #2 - Quieter than his elder brother, plays the clarinet and falls in love with a Greek boy in a twist on the old holiday romance plot.

Go for Thailand. No need for AI and cheap as you like once you get there. Lads should find something to do.

Although not as cheap as it used to be, they raised Duty on booze this year and most places now are around 1.50/2 quid a bottle of Singha.

 

Never been a fan of AI holidays let alone 1 location.

 

My advice is always something like Eurocamp and drive around a country/region specially with the kids but hey, not everyone likes that, some just want to plonk on a beach.

Whilst to me it sounds like one of the rings of Dantes Inferno I do have friends that say the AI in Cuba & Mexico cannot be topped and they have kids aged 11 - 16.
