According to friends and my brother you spend most of your time being appalled and apologising for some yanks treatment of the staff, that said stunning area outside of the resort.

If you're going to Cancun then you've probably chosen it for a reason. However, if you want to step outside the all inclusive enclave then at least take a day trip to Tulum. I'd also recommend Merida if you want to see some real Mexico.

Never been to Cancun but have been to Playa del Carmen downb the road. This place is really worth a trip. You walk and swim through underground caves light by head torches. Amazing, and totally safe. You dont need to be a diver.

Coco Bongo was awesome, me and the Mrs went during our honeymoon and took the all inclusive drinks package and a balcony seat. Needless to say we got absolutely hammered.

 

Make sure you do Tulum and Chichen Itza, but go there early before the crowds arrive.
