Son of Bob Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 My Dad interviewed him this week for the program and Saiejs told him that despite playing in the Netherlands he had "never come across Poortvliet" in his time there! If Dutch league players aren't familiar with him what chance did we ever have!

Son of Bob Posted 22 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 22 January, 2009 I suspect he'd heard of him as he was an ex Dutch International. Those were his exact words so read of them what you will.

Pancake Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 Didn't the OS article when we signed him claim that he came because of JP's reputation in the Netherlands? The defender is also familiar with his new boss and hopes to impress the former World Cup Finalist from his homeland. "Jan has a fantastic record in Holland and he's a good coach too. I am happy to have passed my medical and I'm fit to play whenever the manager wants me to." That may happen as soon as this weekend should clearance come through in time and the defender can then prepare to live out a long term dream of his. Jan Poortvliet had been tracking the 6' 3" defender for some time and as soon as his situation became clear, the 52 year-old swooped to claim his services. "I know him personally very well," Poortvliet explained. "His mentality is good and his character is very strong. He's good in the air and quick enough to cover some space when required, so when we knew he was available, we got in touch." How odd....
Son of Bob Posted 22 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 22 January, 2009 Didn't the OS article when we signed him claim that he came because of JP's reputation in the Netherlands? I lie not! He said that he knew Wotte and was familiar with his work at Feyenoord but as has been pointed out, it could be down to poor English and he is merely stating that he had not 'met him' as such. Saints67 Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 The interviews on the OS are generally re-hashes of the ones carried out on SaintsTV. If I remember later I'll watch the interview they did with Saeijs or maybe I'll forget.
SaintRobbie Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 How odd.... LOL. Isnt it just!
Saint Martini Posted 22 January, 2009 Share Posted 22 January, 2009 How odd.... To be fair this could be due to JP's lousy English. He could have meant that he personally knew the player Saeijs quite well having seen tons of matches with him. Not meaning that they had a personal relationship. There's a lot of strange and worrying stuff going on at Saints but I don't think there is a big lie or cover-up going on here.
