Dylan Moody

On this forum we often, quite rightly, express our displeasure and anger in the strongest of terms at various personalities within our club.

I would like to do the opposite here and extend empathy and much love to Dylan Moody, our U18 goalkeeper, whose family have just received the absolutely devastating news that their father, husband and son Lewis Moody, the ex England rugby player, has been diagnosed with MND, the terrifying disease which took the lives of Doddie Weir and Rob Burrows amongst others.

I wish them peace at this time and hope that the club put their arm around Dylan and support him in every way possible.

Dreadful news, on top of Doddie Weir as a Rugby Union fan as well as human being. Rob Burrow too in League.

I hope the club and everyone associated supports Dylan and the Moody family. 

As a further Saints-related note, my grandmother, who I never got to meet, passed away at the age of just 52 due to MND in December 1975. She followed Saints home and away, and her ultimate was seeing Saints win the FA Cup one day. I don’t really need the type the rest…not sure how my Mum kept it together at Wembley.

Didn't realise he was Lewis Moody's kid! Hope he's OK, in an ideal world  Lewis gets to see him make a first team debut with us before the MND takes too much from him.

A wonderful post dear OldandTired , expressing the sentiments that we all feel today about the news that Lewis Moody has been diagnosed with MND.

I too didnt realise that Dylan Moody is the son of Lewis so special thoughts to him this evening.

Rugby Union is my other sport and there are some players who have stayed in my memory for many years.

And one of them was Lewis Moody.....old " Mad Dog Moody " as he was known in rugby circles.

One of the fiercest and bravest players I have even seen playing both for Leicester and for England. He just put his body on the line in every game he played with not a thought for his own safety. He was extraordinary to watch as a really effective and powerful back rower. Came on in the last 20 minutes of England World Cup Final in Australia in 2003 and shored it up

Perhaps the way Lewis played is a clue to his diagnosis now by today isnt the time to discuss that .

So, Lewis and all the Moody family ,our hearts go out to you and we wish you well in the future. Blessings to you all.

Just appalling news, loved watching Lewis play, he was (and remains) an absolute monster of a player.

The OP post says it all very well,and I'd echo those words. That was a tough watch this morning. 

Thoughts immediately go towards Dylan. How on earth is he processing this news. I'm sure the club will be looking after him as best they can. At some point I'm sure we'll have the opportunity to show our support. A MND charity collection will probably do quite well.

MND remains a chronically underfunded topic for research. Needs to be an all-sector push on fundraising and the agencies need to take it more seriously.

New drug available in the EU, not in UK yet but trials and has delayed symptoms slightly and increased life expectancy by a year or so. Nowhere near more effective treatments let alone cures though.

I think it was Moody who took a punch playing Austrailia away , minutes later he took said pugalist out in a tackle that nearly cut him in half ! Cue massive cheer from the crowd.

Josh Lewsey on Matt Roger’s I think. Tackled him so hard he bust some ribs.

Awful, awful news.

Is it a coincidence that these illnesses are more prevalent (if they are) in those that play a sport that create hard impacts hard, alongside CTE in both rugby and NFL?

Very sad news, he’s still in the prime of life in his 40’s. Feel for him and his family.

Will be horrific for his son, especially if he’s also in the spotlight. I’m sure Saints will offer some protection and support.

It still seems to be under research, but early reports tends to support a link.
