Hope he is OK

I saw him out for lunch with a few familiar faces last year.

He looked looked rather frail but I guess that is not unusual in view of his age.

My best wishes to him for a full and speedy recovery.

Has Lawrie been banished from the club? We dont seem to have him there as a guest anymore (unless health stops him) when he sould be lauded for truly puting Saints on the map.

When he left us for Sunderland I was very bitter about it, but as time has gone on I now realise how much I and fans of the period owe him for the wonderful times he gave us.

The players he got to sign, and the wonderful football he got the team to produce was exceptional at the time, especially with the resources available.

Would be good if the club recognised him properly before its too late.

Was talking to my nipper after watching the Palace debacle on Saturday about the impact of an FA Cup win, and said that Southampton FC and the City generally got a decade of momentum on the back of the cup win in 1976.  McMenemy's growing reputation and profile was key to this.  Having already brought the likes of Osgood to the club, he signs Bally from Arsenal later in 76 and has his established model - senior pros mixed with promising youngsters.  Ten years when we had some incredible players and could give any side in Europe a game, best time to support the club.  The big man really should already have a statue at St Marys to compliment the man who brought him to SFC.
