Blackpool's D J Campbells

What ever happens to us a player like DJ Campbells would be an ideal player to try and sign of course a lot depends on what league we are in. From all accounts he gave us a torrid time yesterday and I imagine he wouldn't cost a great deal. Why is it our management / scouts never seem to unearth talent from the lower leagues when other teams do.

TBF, Blackpool 'unearthed' him from the Championship, via: the Premiership, two high profile FA Cup seasons and Villa's acadamy.

Whereas, we have managed to 'unearth' the likes of Walcott, Kenwyne Jones, Gareth Bale, etc. And that is only in very recent years.

Stop being so quick to slag off our management/scouts/club.

A more pertinent question though is why is it our management regularly fail to bring in even loan players who can make an impact ? ie Campbell on loan for example instead of Pekhart,Robinson et al ?

This is before mentioning Gasmi or Pulis.

Yes,I'd accept Saejs is on loan, but for his success story we have a number of duffers littering the squad.

Actually mate I don't think I was. Blackpool have average gates of 7000 but have taken 4 out of a poss 6 points. You tell me a player that we have signed from our lower leagues that has made a difference. All you have done is mentioned our own acadamy and how long did we keep these golden nuggets!!!

Charlton have signed Luke Varney, Izale McCleod and Stuart Fleetwood in the last two years, all from the lower leagues. Total cost - £3.3million.

From that outlay, they've had 67 first team appearances and 10 goals in a combined almost 4.5 years at the club. Varney has been sold for half the price they bought him, McLeod is on loan at Millwall and Fleetwood is on loan at Exeter, having never played for Charlton's first team.

I'm not saying that you can't find good players on the cheap from the lower leagues - look at Chris Perry, as one example. It's just that it's very easy to throw money at someone who has had one good season lower down, but may well never cut it at the level you want him to.

ALL PRODUCED or found during our premiership years , lets see how many superstars the academy produces now because the best talent is slowly going elsewhere in the south

Good response, and may I also add that its DJ Campbell, not Campbells.

Fair point it will certainly be tougher to get the very best and I can't see us paying for `youngsters' like we did with Dextor, Best and Walcott.

Mind you can we not count Lallana and Mills? Not young enough, how about Patterson, Gobern and McClaggon? A few years down the line and I can see Patterson being worth a few bob.
