slickmick Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 Not just on the field but off it. If we are being asked to fill the stadium to try and ensure survival until the end of the season, then I think the players could take a pay cut or go a few weeks without taking a wage. That won't happen. They're employees, not fans, anyway in the grand scheme of things it probably won't make much of a difference.

Barfy Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 60% + of the clubs turnover is quite a big difference. At this late stage, it'd only make a minimal dent in the financial situation. The problem is that we can't service the existing debt. You or I might consider that course of action if we were loyal to a company we worked for if it meant a chance of greater job security. But when have footballers ever been that altruistic? They know that in a worse case scenario, they could find themselves another team with relative ease. Window Cleaner Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 they might have no choice soon. yes they do, if their salaries aren't paid they can just not play, not turn up for training and if they are employed by the FC Ltd (provided it's not in admin) implement procedure for the payment of their salary. Once a regular period for payment of salary passes the club is in breach of contract if they don't pay.
scott_saints Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 They shouldn't be expected to take a wage cut atall. If any of them WANTED to though- then fair play to 'em!!
a1ex2001 Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 I think it would be a nice gesture if they said in the event of a sell out they would waive say 25% of there salary for the week in question, encourages the fans to show up and shows solidarity. It won't happen though.
Bailey Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 Maybe a wage cut is unfair and unrealistic, but perhaps they could give up a percentage of their wages for the remainder of the season? Would be a superb move by the players; they'd gain instant respect from the fans and would show they really do care.
derry Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 Some people are really dumb, the plc go into administration, because of the legal situation re ownership we avoid the 10 point deduction, if the players contracts aren't honoured in full, it would give the league the opening to be able to deduct the 10 points. Arizona Posted 2 April, 2009 Share Posted 2 April, 2009 Would be interesting to see if any players refused to play if their wages were stopped.
