70's Mike Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Released by Sheff Wendy, old head that could do a job in League One? totally agree we need experience not potential, lets use our academy lads as the potential next season and not import it as we tried this season
The Flying Finn Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 I think he is on the verge of retiring - has a knackered hip I think.
westmidlandsaint Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 also see Matt Richards at Ipswich and our very own Oscar Gobern's brothers been released by Wolves anyone know anything about him
Saints67 Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/sheff_wed/8050614.stm Not sure how many appearances he made this season but I think the last thing we need are players with long term injuries especially ones nearing the end of their careers. there's only so many coaching opportunities a team in dire financial straits can offer. Jesus Reigned Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 also see Matt Richards at Ipswich and our very own Oscar Gobern's brothers been released by Wolves anyone know anything about him I thought Gobern looked good when Wolves game to St Marys two seasons ago (I think - we won 2-0, BWP & Kenwynne?) smithy Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Matty would do a great job in L1 make no mistake
The Flying Finn Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Richards would do a job, but I thinks Fish is a better prospect at left back.

saint peach Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Not sure Watson would be a good buy. He is used to fairly big wages and is injury prone. Would be a good experienced head, and is a sound guy, but better saving our limited budget for younger players who need to prove themselves. Such as Richards. He would be a better buy and provide good competition with Mills. We were linked with a move for him during the Premier League era, weren't we? As for Gillespie, I don't think that'd be a good signing. I've seen alot of him over the past three seasons and his football has been getting progressively worse. And he seems to have a bit of an attitude too.
The9 Posted 15 May, 2009 Share Posted 15 May, 2009 totally agree we need experience not potential, lets use our academy lads as the potential next season and not import it as we tried this season We need both. And did you actually just imply that we didn't give the kids a chance this season ?

lee_saint Posted 15 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 15 May, 2009 I see Cox is being linked with Leicester, some people seem to think he would come here, I very much doubt it. What we do need though is someone who can put the ball in the net, maybe it is time to look at Bishop from Bury, he's someone I don't rate but you never know. We do need strength at the back, we need a half decent left back and another strong centre back. It all depends what happens money wise.

Bishop seems like a decent player and should be able to make the move to League One. But I'm not sure he'd cut it in the Championship. If we want a cheap goalscorer then Rotherham's Reuben Reid would be a good bet. I know the guy fairly well and he just wants to play football. And score goals. His roots are down south and, as much as he is enjoying it up here, a move to Saints would be great for him and his career.
