Redmond by miles. Even under Hughes' hopeless management he was playing way above the level of everyone else. Great credit to him - he lost his head last season as his form and confidence crumbled, but he picked himself up over the summer and came back strongly. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Yes, if Jack Stephens, for example, had been aerially dominated at the back post, costing us two goals in two games, the phrases "scared of heading the ball" and "League One standard" would've made repeated appearances around these parts. Bednarek has been one of our handful of positives to take from the season, but he's not exactly a superstar in the making. I'm not sure he can even cut it in a back four, but he's a solid citizen in a five, albeit limited. Come the summer, we will once again be in desperate need of a new CB (or two). Awesome set of results for us. Hasenhuttl has performed miracles with this squad. Another win (Bournemouth (h) and/or Huddersfield (h) ) would be for insurance. As things stand, Cardiff need to win 3 of 5 to overtake us even if we don't pick up another point. Watch out for Brighton though - absolutely falling apart, and probably their best player, Knockaert, facing a three game suspension. A proper six pointer with Cardiff next week. Argh this is too much stress. Can't watch it, so I'm stuck following commentary. Burnley apparently missing chance after chance against Cardiff. I still think that's a more important game to our overall hopes than even this one - Wolves are good quality and I think we'll do well to take a point. Nice that Sims has made an impression. All our football pundits are squealing, ball-tugging cheerleaders for either United or Liverpool. Until Carrigher's obnoxious fanboying the other night, the worst example this season was Gary Neville's co-commentary stint on Everton 2-6 Tottenham. It wasn't like it was a game devoid of talking points, but Man United had just sacked Mourinho and paper talk had it that Pochettino was top of their shortlist of one to replace him. Neville spent the whole game talking only about Poch joining United. Every good thing Spurs did on the pitch was followed by effusive praise for the manager and some variation on "that's why he'd be perfect for Man United". It was absolutely pathetic, the level of distain he had for Spurs and their supporters. It was a 90 minute masturbatory ode to a team not even playing. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

No way to really predict these things. They're just as likely to want to show a reaction and bounce back hard. They've got seventh to play for in the league and don't lose too many back to back. We'll have just have to deal with whatever turns up. They're a really good side, but a rigid Plan A team: if they have to chase a game or make any kind of tactical switch, they've got nothing. Ward-Prowse has had a great couple of months, form wise, but has been disappointing in his two games after England duty. It's only fair to state that his role seems to have changed again and he's playing less in the middle and more out wide - where he's never really excelled. Funnily enough, his form dropped off a cliff the last time England picked him too. (As did Redmond's.) Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

It was a header from five yards that was possibly already over the line before he even got a glove down and almost clawed it out. Would've been an amazing save. I'd be more concerned that 6' 3" centre back Bednarek was so easily out-jumped by 5' 8" midfielder Keita. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Saints 1 Liverpool 3 - Match Thread and Reaction

Pathetic defending. That's just basic. Valery and Ward-Prowse going for the same ball on the edge of their box, leaving just one man back. Such a kick in the teeth - but entirely self inflicted. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk -

I mean, what's the f-ing point? Doesn't matter how well we play, the officials will still find a way to gift Liverpool the "right" result. Only one winner from here. Hojbjerg sujpjerb. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk -

Back to back relegations for Alfie Mawson too, whom some of supporters wanted to sign last summer to fix our defence. Another terrible defender. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Or perhaps Ralph could pull a tactical rabbit out of the hutch and play a 5-3-2 but, given our lack of striking options, have Redmond and Sims as a false front two stationed high and wide to keep their fullbacks in place. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Lloris is one of the worst "world class" players around. Only Jordan Pickford (somehow the England goalkeeper) has made more errors leading to goals in the last three years in the PL. Not forgetting his absolute howler in the World Cup final no less. Honestly, Gazzaniga might be the best keeper at Spurs these days. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Sam Gallagher - Joins Blackburn: Official

He was a body. Challenged for some headers. Closed down defenders. That was it - we'd already stopped playing by the time he came on. I wouldn't even say he was feeding on scraps. What's less than scraps? Dust? Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk -
Get the F in!!! Pretty much stopped playing as soon as Brighton decided to attack us, and it was an ugly last 20, but that's a massive win - makes the Liverpool game a free hit (probably, should Chelsea turn up against Cardiff). When did we last keep a clean sheet with a back four? A year ago? Longer? Phew. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

0-0 h/t. We've not played too badly, but not a lot of quality in the game (as you'd expect from two of the worst teams in the league). Feels like a game that'll be decided by one set piece or one mistake - not sure that favours us, unfortunately. Brighton will surely try and be more imposing in the second half. They've been at half pace so far. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

We've done well to cap-tie him to England. I think Noddytown were sniffing around. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Who plays in a completely different position, is one of the most coveted teenage attackers in European football, and who was also eligible for Ghana before Southgate cap-tied him last night. As substitutions go in a game already won, it was a no-brainer. Hudson-Odoi also happens to be really flipping good. I don't think it was a reflection on Ward-Prowse at all. All the subs made sense: Barkley might've been average for Chelsea, but he's done well for England in recent games and was again quite decent. And it was a perfect opportunity to give Rice his debut and put to bed the Irish issue ASAP - he's going to overtake Eric Dier in no time, so he might as well be given a bit more experience when possible. Vokins was a standout in the last U23 game I saw. And he's been regularly training with the seniors since Hasenhuttl came in. I suspect he's being eyed up to at least be back up in the near future. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Madrid have got cash problems. Their big spending days are, if not over, likely to be downsized for a while. That's why they didn't replace Ronaldo in the summer - couldn't really afford to. The only signing they made was Courtois, who was a straight swap from Chelsea for the outstanding balance on the Morata deal the previous year. They're not destitute, but with an enormous wage bill and an aging squad on the wane, they're facing some serious rebuilding on a much tighter budget than they're used to. Am I the only one who thinks Armstrong's a bit crap? He's got a good shot on him and seems to try hard, but for a supposed midfielder, he doesn't have many useful midfield attributes. He's not a strong passer or tackler - and his first touch is as bad as Shane Long's. I know we didn't pay much for him, and he's handy squad ballast, but even so he's been pretty underwhelming. Take a draw. Hard to predict what version of Saints will turn up - we've often been really poor in games we were expected to push for a win in, but have beaten Arsenal, Spurs, taken a point at Chelsea and were robbed of at least a point at Man United. I do tend to think away games suit our set up better. Provided there's enough pace on the pitch to counter attack meaningfully. But Brighton are that kind of Burnley-like team that play grim, hard to beat, attritional football and steal a scruffy goal from a set piece. We never seem to do well against the likes.
