Failure to qualify for Europe and this summer's transfer market
The9 replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
I've seen talk that the Liverpool CL place from winning the EL removes the third EL place and instead there's a "one team moved up" effect through the rest of Europe's coefficients for competition qualification, but can't be bothered to check if this is accurate. In which case in your scenario Man U get EL from FA Cup win, West Ham would get Man City's League Cup winning place, and that's it. I am not suggestion that is accurate, just that it's what's been said. EDIT: I've seen the BBC reporting that it isn't the 3rd EL place going if the EL and CL winners are English, it's that there are only 3 Prem League places for the CL, so that 4th place would be the first EL position rather than a CL one. There's then a League Cup winner place and an FA Cup winner place for Europa League, both of which go to the Prem if teams which have already made the CL finish top 4. (City's is already an extra one for the League if they come top 4, or if they come lower but win the CL). -

Who was our preferred right back replacement? -

Personally I'd think West Brom were comfortably the nearest to a Pulis team currently playing in the Premier League. -
We didn't give him a lift back either, so who knows how he got back...

Interesting that last year Fonte was getting all the praise for Alderweireld being brilliant, yet this year Van Dijk is getting all the praise - so what's Fonte been worse at?

‘We have a lot of people who are either on very low paid jobs or who are living on the state pension,’ said the Lib Dem councillor. He added there were many people working in the city on high incomes, but explained they tended to commute out of Portsmouth." I wonder why that would be? As for the "team better suited to League One" comment above, what in the actual hell? There's practically no difference between football from Championship to non-League other than the likelihood of mistakes being made. It's not like they're harbouring some ball-playing wonders who would benefit from a more tactical game, they literally only have one tactic anyway, and it consists of them running fast at the opposition when they have the ball.

Just a reminder of the original point. To which the answer is "why wouldn't they, others have done"?

It doesn't even have to have a precedent to be possible though does it, that's just a rule you made up. Also, there are precedents anyway. And actually it's two examples. Reebok and Macron. I dare say I could come up with a load more as well if I could be arsed, but your rubbish point isn't worth the trouble. And remember, I'm the bloke who compiles lists of where ex-Saints players end up, of Yoshida screw-ups in every match, and recorded 80+ mp3s of Saints fan songs - but I think this isn't worth the effort.

Weddings should be banned between August and May. And every other year in June. Having said that, I will never let the wife forget that I missed the 2010 World Cup Final to get on a flight to the Maldives for our honeymoon (or that I missed the 3rd Place game for our wedding reception). This year we're celebrating our anniversary by going to T in the Park, just realised the Euro 2016 Final is that day... and I'll be in Scotland, the only place in the British Isles that doesn't have a team in the competition. Bugger. On the bright side, it's at least another 20 years until there's another tournament final on our anniversary.

Well, at least someone used the ST resale option.

As someone who only played in the first match this pleases me. Unlike Rabbit's weird waddle.

And indeed came on as sub on Saturday after only one missed match.

Because certain managers have a style they impose and others adapt to what they have. Pochettino is a Bielsa advocate, he's never going to do anything other than high press and swarming breaks, and thanks to bringing Mitchell with him he's also brought in players that play in that way to perpetuate it. That was Pochettino enforcing his Plan A going away, rather than Koeman enforcing anything in particular. We play football like everyone else who doesn't have a defined style, and in fact we're very flexible in formation and approach this season. -

And also, Barcelona have a style, Koeman would manage to that style. -

I'd disagree that was even Pulis' style, never mind that it's what we do. We cross a lot, but we also counterattack a lot and run at players from deep with the ball. We don't actively play for set-pieces, for instance. We're also not "dirty", Other than Wanyama's need to make himself unavailable for selection but available for wages we're probably one of the cleaner sides. -
The insult I heard was that Lescott is supposed to have said the "fan negativity didn't help". Though I've also heard that there's a fake quote going around.
-
I can confirm that Pelle completed a backheel btw. He's 1 for 1 in his last 1.
-
Long should have shot well before the opportunity to pass to Rodriguez presented itself (and was then taken away by Funes Mori).
-
Yeah, he had a whack on the head which meant he didn't remember going off, and went home in the car yesterday with an all clear after a trip to hospital.
-
He had hardly anything to do, and what he did do was fine. Thankfully they didn't unleash Lukaku for 30 seconds and hoof long balls at him or we'd have lost despite stuffing them for 90 minutes. Incidentally, where's the MoM poll?
-
You don't have to be fat to waddle.
-
In the first game I was asked to come back on with 20 minutes left to help out, despite playing longer than I was meant to already... I kindly let someone else had a go (and we conceded some late goals and lost).

What makes you think he wouldn't change his coaching to suit the players? -

We lost two in the previous two windows, no guarantee both of the replacements would work out. If anything it's a response to Yoshida no longer being considered as an option there. Overall I don't think the Europa situation is a big deal - the massive wages all Prem teams will be able to offer players from Europe will be a greater factor than European football once you get past the top 7 - and I doubt anyone who wants big money or Prem football will stay at a European club which is in the Europa League just because of that. -
They'll beat York who are absolute garbage, even though York will have the misfortune of getting relegated if they lose that match, which is on Tuesday night. York are 11 points behind Newport who are the only team they can catch, and they have 12 points to play for. Unfortunately York having to win at home will play into the predictable Skate hands, as they'll score a couple of the counter, and probably run up a cricket score as York collapse their way out of the league (and cost me the £600 I had on Newport in the process). Hartlepool are on a decent run of form under a new manager and could well cause them problems, but the Skates are bolted on for a play-off place - same number of points to automatic as to missing out altogether. They'll come 6th and lose to Plymouth or Accrington over two legs in the semi. Newport having lost their last 6 straight whilst scoring only one goal puts their win at Fratton into a whole new perspective, btw. FWIW I'm going to their almost certain "only the third worst team in the League" survival celebration at Luton on Saturday, they will lose and about 100 away fans will be there. I was able to count them on a freeze frame from Channel 5 for the game at Stevenage on the weekend - and yet most likely Portsmouth will STILL be in the same division as them next season.
