  1. So what you're saying is that they should make different, unrestricted, rulings depending on circumstance, rather than adhering to the prescribed regulations and appropriate punishments as laid out. Well I can't see how that would be open to abuse...
  2. No they haven't, they've ignored the Debrecen ineligibility precedent to make a decision on a suspended player.
  3. Ineligible not suspended and administered by a completely different organisation under different competition rules - and even that punishment is COMPLETELY in line with the one given to Debrecen by UEFA for the ineligible player they fielded. They're taking the flaunting of a suspension more seriously than fielding an ineligible one.
  4. They didn't play him until Wednesday.
  5. But he didn't, because he wasn't registered as a Legia player for the first two matches. You can't serve a suspension for a team you're not registered for! Without punishing this they're also allowing the precedent that players could claim to be playing for a different side to serve their suspensions when their actual team doesn't have matches.
  6. They have used discretion, they decided the rules had been broken and penalised Legia the match 3-0. Previously they'd ignored a similar situation with Debrecen, but that player was ineligible not suspended. The implication is that had Legia won the first leg by more goals they'd still have gone through. As if discretion hasn't been used - if that is a rigid rule it sets all kinds of precedents for sides leading by more than 3 goals just forfeiting the second leg (to keep down travel costs and the risk of new suspensions) rather than risking a 4 goal defeat, and also for any side winning by more than 3 to field anyone they like, registered or not.

They have a long-standing history of playing CBs all across the back line - though considering how advanced Rojo was in Argentina's opening game "for a LB" he's not really your typical CB anyway.

    Right on the first 3.

You're not allowed to say bad things about failed signings of Serbian attackers or players who score lots of goals in the Eredivisie, people get touchy.
  10. Of course it is, the winning team played a player who was suspended. Every other side in the competition has managed to adhere to the suspension rules.
  11. Legia shouldn't have given them the opportunity to do it.
  12. Obviously they would have, if they want their competitions to have any semblance of fairness.
  13. It's not UEFA's responsibility to assist a club with naming their team, it's the club's responsibility to ensure they meet the rules. It's UEFA's responsibility to ensure violations of their regulations are dealt with if that is not done.
  14. It doesn't necessarily have any effect on us signing Forster or Van Dijk though. In fact we might have completed the transfer in the period between the result and Celtic finding out they may be reinstated. Difficult to stop a transfer when the player's had his head turned (as we may or may not be seeing with Schneiderlin, who was noticeably absent from yesterday's "green screen" video).
  15. I think the idea will be for Stephens to cover there, he's been CB for a while but has played RB. Failing that, it's shifting out one of the CBs to cover RB, so Fonte, Hooiveld or Yoshida... Yoshida was AWFUL last time I saw him there for Saints. Hopefully we've got the idea of playing Cork there out of our system - Ward-Prowse would probably be better.
  16. Also here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28674956 I think we've decided that we're keeping Stephens as right back cover, he was with them last season.
  17. Turnbull's gone on season long to Swindon now! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28674956

Yeah, just like he did with Gastón.
  19. They're trying to sign him (and Stephens) on loan but I'd imagine we're keeping them around until our CB deal(s) are done. Neither was on Swindon's squad number list when published yesterday afternoon.
  20. They also don't tie you to long term wage commitments.

Is this another cartoon? Schneiderlin and Les Biens?
  22. Just doing the bit with the electrodes.
  23. I prefer the "burlap sack over the head before kick off" approach, though even if we lose hideously that could just be spun as "look how much we need you". If this was wrestling, it would be a "Philipp Wollscheid on a pole" match.
  24. It wasn't a very "matuer" description.
  25. I had no idea who you were referring to. You weren't very clear who you thought the "residual garbage in our squad (which is still there...)" were - 4 of those who might have been part of that description have left, which is half the bench. All of the players you mentioned have had some successes in the Premier League though (Yoshida and Hooiveld partnership in the 2-1 home win against Chelsea for a start, Gazzaniga against Cardiff away), and you'd have been saying the same about Fonte a year ago until he found a partner to improve him overall.
