  1. Of course, as SaintRichmond is so concerned with semantics, actually we can sell anyone at any point, they can own his registration outside a transfer window, they just wouldn't be able to play him because the registration can only transfer within a transfer window. Which pretty much makes signing him just to pay his wages for a while a really silly idea. And that is also one of the main reasons why Rodriguez is still at Saints.
  2. Interesting, given that we're playing them on Saturday.
  3. The Transfer Window closes at 11pm on September 1st. In order to sell him AFTER "September 1" (or "September 1st" as he actually said on SSN), he would have to wait until January 1st. Which as far as I'm concerned is fine anyway.
  4. This was the game he gave Kenwyne his debut... at right midfield, right?
  5. Have you seen the standard of defending in MLS? Lower end Championship standard and glacial turning speeds for most clubs, and he was decent for Charlton in L1, so shouldn't really have a problem scoring. Even Thierry Henry gets a few goals, and though he can still glide with the ball, he doesn't have the same pace, or the inclination to run much any more.

    Marcos Rojo

Not really that much to sort, just get the fee agreed with more than one owner. The experience of signing Ramirez could be handy in that (assuming Cortese didn't do it all, and I'm guessing it was more a legal team thing). I seem to recall from (or possibly due to) the Mascherano/Tevez debacle that you can't even loan players if they have multiple owners under Premier League rules, so we won't have that fall-back position.
  7. From last season's frequent bench-warmers, Guly has gone, Chambers has gone, Fox has gone, Osvaldo is out on loan. It also seems likely that we'll sign a keeper ahead of the two who filled the bench last season, and that kids on there will have another year's experience. I agree that our lack of strength in depth was the problem last season, and because we're only signing replacements for those who've left, it'll be the same this season, just with different players.
  8. If it was a couple of years ago, that must have been Reed. None of the others were either with the club or in that position at that point.
  9. So far what he's done is a very good "old Jordan Henderson" impression - it's actually difficult to tell them apart on the pitch from gait and stride, until one of them starts closing down and looks sprightly and youthful with multiple direction changes, and the other one doesn't.
  10. Not sure where you're getting your evidence for "not so few" from. You're the only person I've seen so far who thinks Lambert should have stayed. Everyone else is somewhere on the scale of "he was past it anyway" to "nice gesture/good business for the club not to stand in his way as he's done so well for us". The thing that always sticks with me, is "name another outfielder over the age of 32 who has gone for more than £4m". It's not easy.
  11. Got a job reporting on Saints for the BBC under the name "Ben Smith" afaik.
  12. I'd probably actually sell him for that. I think Holtby's excellent, and Chiriches is at least as good as the ones we've got and hasn't already failed for us there like some. Plus ten million quid. But then that's the problem, ALL of the deals we did were good money and worth doing in isolation, it's just having done them all at once.
  13. Get ye to the Muppet Show.
  14. Anyway, updated it now. And added Ings for the lolz. Now if we could go back to discussing how the Mirror is stealing a living reporting on football...
  15. I also like to think that our plethora of reserve keepers is because Gazzaniga being in the first team has set the bar so low.
  16. Note comments. And actually, it was because I created him before I realised that we had far too many "non-first teamers" and decided to distinguish.
  17. As it happens, when I had a few spare minutes yesterday I put this together... even added a couple of possible signings to the depth chart. Basically it's red for 1st team, purple for fringe player/bench (or injured for Rodriguez), black for reserve/development/League cup squad. http://footballtactics.net/books/?p=1273
  18. "The hard way", not the long way.
  19. The plan was revised when we got to the Prem ahead of schedule, all previous talk was forgotten about in a storming attack on the Top 4. That was last season, in case anyone was wondering. When we had Gazzaniga in the team for a bunch of games.
  20. I'll be surprised if Steven Davis isn't in with a shout (of both starting and captain), he was one of our most effective creators last season and has excellent workrate too, it'll be some player (or some formation) who keeps him out of the side.
  21. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/who-best-squad-depth-premier-4002736 An attempt at some kind of comparison of squad depth by the Mirror, in doing so showing how little they know about Saints. If you want to see what they've got for the rest of last season's top half, by all means click, but I hope their best effort on Saints isn't representative of their knowledge... Pelle gets a mention in the text but not the pic, no Targett (but Stephens at left back), and I don't know who they think we're playing left midfield/wing... They can't even get our CBs the right way around.
  22. Why? We don't need to confirm a captain before the teams walk out for our first match, and it doesn't even have to be a fixed position. It makes sense for the captain to be on the pitch, and we already have Kelvin as "Club Captain" as opposed to "Team Captain" in the figurehead role, so we can't have another one of those anyway. So let's deal with it when it needs to be dealt with. In a week's time, when some of the recruitment questions being answered may also have changed this answer.
  23. The Ben Smith article after Cortese left indicated that "at least one player" had a Cortese leaving clause. It didn't specify who, though others on here have also said it was Shaw. Given the rumours about Cortese trying to sign all the academy players to Stellar along with Shaw, I wouldn't be surprised.
  24. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26813363 Hofstetter's "inheriting a difficult financial situation" not evidence?
  25. I hadn't even thought of that. Makes sense.
