You may recall I was one of the "experience" people, but I can accept the "learning" excuse provided we stay up and they learn enough to be useful to us in the future. Anything other than that and they're just not good enough. My concern with Yoshida is that some of his basic techniques in distributing the ball seem to be flawed, and as worrying, he's not great at anticipating the flight of the ball in the air, which... well, he's a centre back in England now.
-
I think that's more because he's played left back fairly frequently. Not right back though, looked like a fish out of water when he filled in there on his debut too.
-
Probably, if you leave Gazzaniga out of the equation.
-
Might have been nice to have known that Wigan were pretty decent when we played them too, can't really complain about us wasting our learning experience mostly in matches we wouldn't win anyway, provided we win the ones that matter and show we've improved in the new year.

I was singing "you're...", just for the record.

You don't seem to understand that half time is for standing up to ensure the knees don't seize for three of our stands. In the Northam I occasionally use the half-time break for a nice sit down... for the same reason.

The "real fans" are back in the stand watching the dancing dog mascot having left after 20 minutes to get the beers in, surely ? There's a guy near me who turns up 10 mins after kick off and bails for beers with about 10 minutes of the first half left. He's also usually on his way to the pub before the final whistle as well, I dunno why he doesn't just get a season ticket to the Alfred and spend his £500 there?

Nearly whacked one of the Norwich players in the head before kick off whilst doing it too, bonus point for that. I was amused, for about 2 seconds. Then he just kept going... and going... and apparently also did it at half time. Sheesh, all fours and fake peeing on the corner flag next week or the, er, dog days are over.

Historically (and statistically) 42 gives you a better than 50% chance of staying up, so anything more than 42 would leave me reasonably pleased, especially with some teams setting record low points totals in the early part of the season.

He was utter shoite against us as well, couldn't (or wouldn't) hold anything and was barely pushing fairly simple shots away from the danger area. He nevertheless kept a clean sheet in that match, which Gazzaniga also managed less than a week ago.

Because they're too slow ? Was certainly the case for Barry against Ozil in 2010.

How well would Liverpool do with RL in their side?

Lambert would at least give them an option, they have nothing up front if Suarez gets injured or suspended. -
Not sure about the narrative, agree re decision boxes.

I was amused by the obvious massive deliberate celebratory over-reaction to our free-kicks when shown on MotD, it looked most out of place after the "nice reception for the ref" comments seconds earlier, and any half-knowledgeable fan would have worked out he wasn't giving us anything from that alone. -

He was frankly abysmal, we've had two in a row with the inept Atkinson on Sunday as well. In no parallel universe are two handed shoves in the back NOT fouls, and God only knows how he thought Lambert shoved the defender who piled over the top of him for one free-kick decision, Lambert was facing the other way ! I also have my doubts about Clyne's tackle being a foul from which they scored the free kick, he may have jarred his foot into the ground as he did it, but clearly moved the ball 10 yards in the direction he was tackling and the attacker kicked his (ball-winning) boot. As for the linesman not flagging for a corner with Bunn catching the ball in the middle of his body with two feet off the pitch, and in the second half (same bloke?) flagging for Puncheon's cross which barely touched the line and passed through the six yard box "bending off the pitch", God help us. Much "not a racist, just a crap ref" banter was missed last night. -

4 games 8 points for 2 points a game is all well and good provided that's not "complemented" by a lack of points in the other 34 games. If we draw or lose too many home games we'll still be in trouble, though I'm happy to say that the 7 points from 4 games MINIMUM target I set was just about exceeded. To be honest as we're still in the bottom 3 even AFTER that run, we need to get at least 10 points from Liverpool, Reading, Sunderland, Fulham and Stoke and even then we're going to be in amongst the bottom sides with the likes of Arsenal, Man City and Man U coming around again. Unless we start putting together some genuinely excellent performances in the period up to March we're still going to be in the bottom 3 then. The good news is that then we get another run of slightly "easier" games again - we have to be in with a chance of safety at the start of March. -

I look at it with my head tilted at a slight angle. It doesn't make any difference, I could look at it upside-down and it would still be 1-1. -
That wasn't a goal, Roger. I don't even know what point you're trying to make here, and it's not because *I'm* a cretin.

BBC Online and Skysports variously described us as "lucky" and didn't mention any of our players, so...

Funnily enough I voted for Cork. Shaw was also decent. Lambert was alright as well, good to see him scoring a few utterly shoite goals, his long range shots were getting tedious. .

Strange, as I managed to get home to Hedge End via Portswood and Eastleigh by half 10 by parking near Varsity London Road, driving down the Avenue in the right lane, going into Lodge Road and Thomas Lewis Way (which was busy but moving) then under Swaythling Arch and past Fords. No traffic at all in Eastleigh or on the M27 after that. On the way in I took the M27 to J5 and then avoided Onslow Road by going up Burgess Road, past the Uni and through Highfield, getting to the Avenue at Westwood Rd where the queue was a whole 3 cars deep. No traffic problems at all if you just took the trouble to dodge about a bit, in fact it was clearer than usual.

As a bit of a process flow expert, I query the lack of clarity around the identical "YES" options following "does Gazzaniga make a howler ?" and the lack of possibility of migrating directly from Davis to Boruc, especially as Kelv has been on the bench for both. Other than that, mildly amusing.
