From recent tweets neither Sharp nor Hooiveld know their numbers, but Lambert, Lallana, Lee and I think Rodriguez had shirts made up with their numbers from last season for the kit launches. We were also hoping for new signings and kit number confirmation when they launched the new shirts though...

Wigan seem to have been busy with Aruna Kone and Miyaichi though, decent signings you'd expect to be capable. Meanwhile even with our type of targets we haven't heard a peep about, say, Bolton's Mark Davies, who's 24 and could be picked up for less than Rodriguez cost, but has talent and Prem experience that doesn't just include relegation.

They have to tell the Premier League by 3pm Saturday, they may not choose to tell us - I'm keeping an eye on Premierleague.com as much as the OS though .
-
Oh also, Lallana and Lee's shirts have both been sold pre-printed in the shop with 20 and 19 on respectively, so no, the 1-18 thing definitely won't be the case. I can see our list missing a no.5 again this season at this rate... we just need the Premier League to ok it.

There will be a pile of not-in-the-25 players with squad numbers due to them being U-21s as well. Just because someone isn't playing doesn't mean they won't have a squad number planned. You don't have to be eligible to play (ie in the 25 or the U21 list) to be allocated a squad number anyway, just registered with the club. Man City have players in the 70s and most of them won't make the cut and aren't all U21s. Plus the PL have obviously made an exception for Bendtner at Sunderland if not Arsenal.

As with alpine's legendary no-CBs thread of Bennett-Making vintage, you didn't have a point when you posted it but as time went on and nothing happened, it started to look a little more legitimate. 3 weeks down the line from Adkins looking to bring in some CBs and a RM and we're looking down the barrel of Man City and wondering if the plan is to have someone in for Wigan the week after...

Tch, Godwin's Law, you lose, Stevo.

Champions League winner, European Championship Golden Boot, FA Cup winner, European Championship Winner, winning goal at the Nou Camp... All last season. A few years left on his contract and the three players who had been ahead of him having left so they can now build a system around his style of play... Yeah, waste of money.
-
I'd be doing that about Rodriguez if we stopped playing him on the wing, he looked decent down the middle against Arsenal (reserves).
-
I'd be betting on Steve Clarke personally. Taking over from a very accomplished manage, a long time assistant with no previous Prem management experience and a West Brom side that may have just got comfortable in mid table for a year or two and forgotten what it's like to fight.

John. Johnny Johnny John John Gorman.

So far it's going exactly as expected, getting thrashed but hanging on, the first goal when it comes will signal an avalanche as the kiddies all fold simultaneously. Can someone check if my predicted 22 contains all of their players? Nice touch from the Skates only using squad numbers over 21 - typical wastefulness though, if they'd gone 1-11 they'd have saved £100 on shirt number costs.

I rarely drink during the week, maybe one bottle of beer or a glass or two of wine with food, or with a film, maybe once during the week. I really only drink when I'm out, and nowadays I'm mostly just out when Saints are playing. About 3-4 pints on any match day when I'm going to the match. If I go to the pub other than that it's for the father-in-law's band and that's only a couple of pints once every few months on top of the footy. However, back in 1999 when I was working in a team of 7 all staying in hotels Mon-Fri (and then going out Fri and Sat nights), I must have been drinking on average 3 pints a night. It was never an issue, though I did once go out in Cardiff and absolutely couldn't get any kind of drunk feeling at all, despite realising after a few points and deliberately mixing pretty much anything. That was just WEIRD, I felt stone cold sober off about 25 units. I reeled it back in after that, but not having the "hotel bar with work colleagues" thing made it easy to cut down to just Friday/Saturday binges. Oh, and I was teetotal until I was 25, and for 2 months earlier this year just to see if I could.

Do you get the impression they're none too keen to announce their travelling squad for tonight ? I mean Gillingham have put up news of who's in the matchday squad for their game at Bristol City, and that includes Tommy Forecast, how can the team the Skates put out be more embarrassing than that ?

Which dovetails with the Player Registration Rules in this case : PLAYERS’ REGISTRATIONS Requirement for Registration 1. In addition to the forms and documents specifically required by these Rules, a Club shall submit to the Secretary: 7.1 any contract it proposes to enter into which gives the Club or any other party to the proposed contract any rights relating to the transfer of the registration of a player at a date in the future from or to the Club or any rights relating to the employment of the player by the Club; or 7.2 any contract it proposes to enter into, save for a Representation Contract or an Image Contract, which gives the Club or any other party to the proposed contract the right to receive payments in respect of a Player. Oi, this is kit territory, my turf. We can update squad numbers as we go, obviously, as we don't need to declare the squads until outside the window. But we DO have to have numbers for the players we use from the start of the season BEFORE the squad needs to be confirmed. You can't use a number unless the previous incumbent has left.

Signed by Alan Pardew, no less.

That'll be the West Ham who had already had Tevez play for them, right? Albeit a move which cost them £50m odd in compensation due to his third party ownership at the time, but nevertheless, the fact he'd already played there (and at the time wasn't likely to play for Man City again) puts a dent in the suggestion that it made them look like a joke.

Butterfield, Seaborne, Dickson, Barnard and Forte all probably not giving a toss might help clarify what's happening with this one. Takes some balls to call that an U-21 team.

Development Out.

They are in comparison to... I dunno... Micah Richards, Aaron Ramsay and Danny Welbeck.
