I suspect that compensation for his termination by Leeds hasn’t been agreed yet. Contractually they have to pay him out but there is the issue of mitigating his loss. This might very well have had a part to play in this. I wouldn’t be surprised that JM instead of backing himself at Saints he got greedy.
-
Perhaps he was just seen as the best of a bad bunch - hence why the short contract offer
-
Not sure why people are getting so upset. Imagine we had given him a longer contract, he had no impact, we were relegated and started the new season badly, people would be coming on here screaming that we were stupid to give him such a long contract. I think we’ve been very prudent here. The board, who don’t get me wrong as I’m no fan of them, obviously were not convinced Marsch was totally the man they wanted. They’ve acted properly in this instance.

I'm more than happy to give him a fair crack but the first time that he picks Lyanco, Bednarek, Diallo and Elyounoussi all in the same starting XI, that will be it for me. Call for him to go at that point 😉

Could do a lot lot worse
-
Yep - the chap from Copenhagen to work alongside him
-
Jess Thorup (thanks Turkish) is well worth having a read about. He would be as good as anyone currently available and achievable.
-
All about money though isn’t it. Poch sounds like a stupid idea but if you offered him a £10 million bonus to keep us up for a fixed 16 week contract with the option for him to stay longer if he wanted………
-
Of those that are free and available, hate to say it as I don’t like the guy but with a point to prove and not sure we will do better, Gerrard might be the man

The board should resign as well. This was their appointment. They didn’t just get it a bit wrong. They made a monumental cock up. They cannot be trusted to appoint our next manager. They compounded their cluster fuck by not sacking him after last week’s performance, decision making by Jones and that humiliating interview.

There’s a lot of us in that one out of ten.

It has been shit for quite a while now at SFC and this week we hit new lows. But football is like life. It throws up the unexpected when you’re on your knees. We will go and beat Wolves this weekend and new hope is generated but it’s the hope that kills you.
-
I know it’s not mathematically the case but we lose on Saturday and we’re probably fucked
-
This is a message to the board if they do happen to read this. You don’t know Southampton FC. You don’t know the nature of the fan base. I can tell you now from a fan of nearly 50 years that Nathan Jones is doomed. We did it with Branfoot and I can tell you this is 10 times more powerful. The team can win on Saturday with Jones still in place but it will make no difference. He will be gone. If you want to walk away now with any modicum of self respect still intact you’ll sack him now. If you don’t then we will turn on you next and you’ll be gone within 6 months. We have long memories. Do what’s right and sack him this week. Nothing wrong in admitting you got this wrong. That’s the sign of a real man. Stubbornly ignoring the truth is a sign of weakness, arrogance and stupidity. You will pay for it in the end. Your days will also be numbered at Southampton.

What about Caballero until the end of the season? He is experienced and seems popular amongst the players. I’m not sure who else is out there who would either want to come here or could do much better. I don’t believe Bielsa would want to come and do we really want Fat Sam or Hodgson? They ballsed this up by not giving the job to Dyche. I would take a spin on Caballero if he wanted it until the end of the season. We have the players we just need to unite them. Maybe a crazy idea but hey, who knows what might happen. Rather have Caballero rather than Lampard or Gerrard.
-
I think they’ll give him another game purely because of the post match interview yesterday when he said from now on he will do it his own way. The board, because they are struggling to admit they’ve got this wrong will give him the opportunity to hang himself based on next Saturday’s performance.
-
My gut feel - nothing more - is that they will give him the Wolves game on Saturday. This is where we have a dilemna. We win he gets to stay - at least for another few games. We lose he’s out. I never have wanted my team to lose before but next weekend I do. This man is like a cancer in our club. He needs to go. The sooner he leaves the sooner we will be united again. He stays we will be relegated. I’ve never been more certain about anything. As i said, he’s a cancer and is as bad if not worse than Branfoot was. We the fans can get rid of him by not turning up next weekend. Loud demonstrations outside St Marys before the game on Saturday by thousands of fans will help bring it to a head. He’s a nasty little egotist with a serious personality disorder. How those appointing him didn’t see this make you seriously wonder if they also should be anywhere near our club.
-
He’s dead man walking. This interview is the beginning of the end.
-
The way he blames others and his whole manner suggests a very large chip. I’m struggling to understand what those interviewing him saw in him. You really have to question the senior management at the club. They’d struggle to get a job in any other line of work. Football has a habit of employing and promoting average people.
-
He’s incompetent, out of his depth and moreover a blame merchant. If the powers that be cannot see this then the same can be said of them. Admit you got it wrong and sack him. I said after the Forest debacle that I wouldn’t go to another game until he was sacked. I’ve stayed true to my word and others should do the same. Vote with your wallets. Boycott the club until he’s gone. Unfortunately the Man City game glossed over huge cracks. But that’s all it did. Don’t go to the games until he’s gone.

How 5-1 with Skybet
-
Crab Lungs - I think that you’ve summed it up perfectly. The trend today is to look for any excuse to try and be offended. It’s the mentality and also the general lack of backbone in people that has created a blame and claim culture instead of people just concentrating on the positives in their lives. Always look for the negative.

Usual fans conspiracy theory nonsense. I have it on good authority (won't name my source) that Cedric picked up an injury in the warm up. Nothing more than that.

I was at school with Adam Blackmore. I'm sure that he's a nice chap now.
