When it comes to Gabbiadini, unfortunately Pellegrino simply does not seem to rate him and it appears to have had a negative impact on his form and confidence. Assuming Pellegrino’s still with us, Gabbiadini will be behind Carillo, Long and Austin.
-
I seem to remember that the Twente supporters had a good laugh when we signed Cuoco Martina.
-
Gabbiadini would not even make the bench, for one.

This Guardian article by Dominic Fifield is on the Carillo transfer, but he mentions that we still have a “strong interest” in Promes... https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/24/southampton-deal-sign-guido-carrillo-monaco

If we don’t bring in a winger in this window, I wonder if the manager will consider playing Long in a wider position with Carillo playing as the lone central striker. I’m also thinking of all the times we’ve been undone by headers this year. Burnley and Brighton spring to mind, not to mention Spurs at home. This could be just the kind of player we need.

You beat me to it...

The Telegraph is reporting on the £19.2M deal... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/01/24/monaco-agree-sell-striker-guido-carrillo-southampton-192m/

He seemed to be pretty good at regurgitating the same info in multiple articles over time. I thought at the time that VVD’s complaints in his transfer request letter about private discussions with Les and the Saints board being leaked to the media, were provoked by Palmer’s articles.
-
I remember from the VVD nonsense in the summer that Palmer seemed to distribute his information between Yahoo, the Irish Independent and some other Irish rag. His Yahoo articles never had an author listed on them, and he always linked to them via Twitter. Usually an Irish Independent article followed the same day, attributed to him with slightly different or more info. He seemed well-connected on VVD. As to the reported “lavish” £30M asking price, he described VVD’s asking price in the same manner back in December. Can’t really blame Liverpool for attempting to fleece the team that has fleeced them for so much money particularly after the VVD transfer. Still the asking price is too steep for a crocked player. Sort of reminds me of their approach to offloading perma-crock Sakho, last season.

It probably says something that the players still seem to be fighting for Pellegrino, I suppose. I thought there was plenty of effort in the Spurs game, but then after a good performance the team has tended to lay a colossal egg such as Palace after Man U or Leicester after Arsenal, which is my concern for the important Brighton match. He’s a nice fellow, the players seem to like him and play for him on occasion, but he has one premier league win in 11 games. He is very lucky to have patient employers.

I would consider resting Bertrand and Cedric and giving McQueen and Pied a start. Due to the lack of pace in attack and because he has played very well lately, I’d start Long assuming he’s recovered from his illness. I agree with the comments about playing Hoj deeper.

I disagree with most of this. It is immaterial exactly when Cortese decided to fire Adkins, although the fact he had Poch lined up means it was not a snap decision and was the result of some planning. Adkins was fired on a Friday after a midweek draw away to Chelsea. Poch was hired immediately in time to manage the team against Everton the following Monday. That is all that matters. Puel was fired on June 14, and Pellegrino was hired on June 23. This is inconsistent with waiting to fire Puel until Pellegrino was secured, and is more consistent with bad planning, or not managing to secure preferred targets as SKD says. I certainly hope Les & Co have learned from the past and have someone lined up if / when they decide to fire Pellegrino.

Matt Targett - Joins Aston Villa (Official)
Saint Albert replied to Kaiser Soze's topic in The Saints
Good luck to him. I’ll be interested to hear what the Fulham supporters think of his performances. -
I think that the timelines match up with this...didn’t Watford hire Silva before Puel was fired?
-
The last thing I read about Sturridge yesterday is he prefers a loan move to Sevilla, and Liverpool will contemplate loaning if their proce in the range of £25M is met at the end of the season. The £50M figure being thrown around seems...unlikely.

The answer appears to be yes... https://mobile.twitter.com/fcsm_english/status/953988737570168832 As an aside I forgot that Spartak Moscow were the club that produced the recent “chocolate melting in the sun” Tweet.

Kudos to them for the quick replacement. Still, I’m not sure about Gracia.
-
Yep it was Stephens. Him and Hoedt look somewhat similar from a distance, to be fair. Positive result today. Feels like a bonus point. Something to build on. Hopefully we don’t build on it like we did after the draw at Old Trafford.

Nigel was fired after a credible away draw at Chelsea. Stranger things have happened.

It irritates me when the sports channel I’m watching cuts out of the post game to cover curling. Just saying.

JWP gets the MOM on the telly. For some reason JWP reminds me of Roy Hodgson when he speaks.

FT: 1-1. A deserved point, but is it enough to save Pellegrino?
-
A poor Wanyama effort relieves the pressure.

5 minutes of stoppage time.

Good block as Spurs attack. A scramble from the corner, and the Kane just misses.
