I didn't realise he played for us 44 times actually. My memory is of him in our relegation season where he must have been 36/37 years old, and by then I thought his crossing and use of the ball was fantastic but he was painfully slow

There's a certain generation of Saints fans who fondly remember stars like Case coming and doing a good job for us in their later years. However, at my age I more remember the disappointment of Hirst, Speedie, Howells, J Redknapp. The best I can think of is Le Saux and even his legs had completely gone. Can't remember if Mark Hughes was actually any good but he didn't bang in the goals like I perhaps naively expected

I wouldn't boo but they're just silly songs, who cares if people want to boo. I wouldn't be mortality offended if I went to a game in Italy and the fans booed our crap anthem. I also don't really understand what the FA are supposed to do to stop people booing

This is surely a minority opinion now? He was incredible in that game, Denmark couldn't get a hold of him, he was going past players constantly and still running right to the end of the game. The thing you could criticise previously was his use of the ball, but in that game, aside from one wayward shot, I don't remember him doing much else wrong

We'll never know for sure but I thought the FK was a real bullet that flew at quite an unusual angle, so personally wouldn't blame him for that. His distribution and general temperament are a real worry though

It's not in the interests of Blackburn or the player to rush things in case they get a better offer

I still don't know how he isn't starting Grealish but I found it so strange how critical people were of him as a manager

They haven't taken anything out so far so they presumably know that relegation will cost them far more

I think it's plausible that he said "yeah ok, I'm interested, let's see what they have to say". But that's a long way from forcing through a move or being upset if it doesn't happen. Ultimately he shouldn't have signed that contract if he had ambitions to leave at this point.

He's been at Southampton for a decade. Some people would be fine with that, and that's totally fine, but a wealthy young man in his mid-20s can be forgiven for wanting to try something different in a different place. I'd probably be angling for a move to Italy rather than Birmingham but it's a reasonable position

If I was him I'd be interested in the move just for a change of scene as much as anything. Not everyone wants to spend their whole life working in the same place for the same company. Add to that the fact that Villa probably are a step up at the moment

Happily I think JWP is professional enough that we could make him stay and he would still perform. He has a long contract and I'm not convinced Villa will pay the £50m+ we'd need to sell.

What age was JWP when he finally started to convince?

I think he gets one more season. He didn't push on this year but development isn't always a linear process and he's young enough that he could have a breakthrough. Obviously running out of time though

I'm definitely hoping for more attacking play from our new man. Bertie is still a good player though

I've said it before - I don't think Bertrand could play Ralph's system anymore as it requires a lot of running at full back, but he may well do a good job for Leicester

Because Rashford is better defensively? I'm not amazing at picking up that side of the game but presumably that is the reason. Plus Sancho has never really done anything in an England shirt when he's been given the chance

Sure. I mainly take issue with the idea that we're not interested in him and blind to his qualities, which is more negative, club-bashing nonsense. Maybe we'll get him but I'd say there's a fair chance that another club will come with a more attractive proposition, either in terms of money or to challenge further up the table
