Not sure he could replace Romeu. He is too lightweight and not secure enough in possession. Would imagine Slattery is next in line. Anyway, sure we will find out soon enough.

Anyone else feel this has gone from our strongest looking position to weakest, depth wise, within about 6 months? We essentially have two proper centre mids in the first team squad, plus JWP who can only play in a midfield three. Hard to see any situation where Romeu and Hojbjerg wouldn't start every single game this season in all comps when fit as the quality drop is too great to ever leave them out unless we get a lower league side in the FA Cup. However the injuries and suspensions inevitably hit (probably during our winnable run in December) who will come in? Presume the likes of Slattery, who has been marginalised? Stephens? Danso? Not really PL quality options...

See good signs from Adams still. He needs a goal for sure, but I would definitely keep starting him. Nice pass to Obafemi for Ings second goal and made lots of good runs. Seem to recall Jay Rod took a while to score but was still playing well and once he did he went on from there.

Djenepo still out, could be longer according to RH. Redmond a doubt as has only just come back. RH will field the strongest team he can.

Yoshida's contract is up at the end of the season. I presume, like with Long, he is being consciously phased out.

Personally feel, against the popular (lazy?) opinion that Vestergaard often has his best games against smaller, quicker forwards and struggles more against the bigger, more powerful players.

Personally feel the Djenepo & Mane comparison is a bit of a lazy one. Djenepo uses the ball well (can't remember him tripping over his own feet?) and is much physically stronger than Mane was when he first played for us. They both dribble, definitely, but are quite different players.

Thought Adams was excellent yesterday, comfortably his best game for us. Aside from the two chances which he did little wrong with, he was really strong, held the ball up well and put their defence under pressure. Confident he will do well long term for us.

The first Poch summer when we signed Wanyama, Lovren and Osvaldo was a game changer for us - and we didnt lose anyone. Lovren was essentially taking Hooiveld's place and is probably the biggest upgrade of a starting player since being back in the PL (Shaw for Fox maybe the other). Wanyama also hit the ground running and those two massively improved us.

Harding was miles, miles better than Targett - relative to the league we played in. In L1 Harding was one of the best LBs and a passable Championship one too. Targett barely had a 7/10 performance in 40 odd games.

Recent times could add Dybala, Pepe and Maddison.
