  1. https://sportwitness.co.uk/theres-an-agreement-with-the-owner-danny-rohl-on-reaching-deal-over-sheffield-wednesday-future/ https://sportwitness.co.uk/danny-rohl-sheffield-wednesday-quality-of-southampton-leicester-city-and-ipswich-town/ Reading the quotes here, whilst nothing concrete, it doesn't particularly come across as he has an agreement with Saints and is expecting to be announced in due course. If that were the case (with Saints or any club) I'm not sure what he has to gain from doing the podcast. Considering he is still contracted to Sheff Weds for 2 more years having willingly signed an extension its fairly unprofessional from him IMO.
  2. On what criteria are you judging?
  3. By that logic Russell Martin got 87pts so just get him back?
  4. What does "higher" mean? They will just want to get the best person for the job and will have own criteria as to what that is.
  5. If Rohl is to end up back in Germany then I am sure Spors will also have known that for a while too.
  6. Rohl clearly confident he is leaving Sheff Wed for someone and wants it done ASAP. Sure it will become clear where his destination is soon enough. If we wanted him when RM went I don't see why we would have changed our minds on that since.
  7. How many goals we conceded last time in the Championship was more to do with how we played than the quality of the individuals IMO. We did also score the second most goals so clearly were more balanced towards attack than defence. My recollection is that Bednarek was extremely comfortable at that level and can barely think of any games when he struggled 1vs 1 with any forward. In fact, he bossed the majority of them, including in key games versus Leeds. I get that we have had a poor defensive record which he has been part of but the majority of that has been in the PL where we aren't going to be next season. KWP, Bednarek and THB were all better than Championship level. Lose all three and all of a sudden our back 4 would look very much bog standard Championship level. To get promoted you need some of the best players in the league across key positions so lose those guys and we need to buy in players who meet that criteria, whilst also needing to get strikers and wide players who meet that criteria too. We could sell Bednarek for £6m and then be quoted £20m to sign someone of the same level - will get expensive quickly.
  8. Bednarek was above the level of the Championship last time and its the relative quality of those types that gets you promotions. For £6m there is little chance we can buy that in so whilst I don't begrudge him a move I am suprised people celebrate something like that. He is a PL experienced Intl CB in his prime who is rarely injured! Was massive last time out in the Champ. The whole advantage you have as a relegated team is having some players who are too good for the lower level - regardless of their PL ability. Don't wish them all away!

This is very over simplified and not hugely accurate. Parsons is CEO. He obviously had a role in recruitment negotiations but in no way would he have been ID'ing and choosing which players to target. The whole point of Spors being brought in is to have a single person responsible for the football operation - its not just names that have changed but roles and responsibilities.

To be fair to them, their off-field appointments have largely been pretty good. Goldie is doing a great job with the Academy, Calum McFarlane excellent with U18s and now 21s since another good appointment in Rusk has become involved with the first team. Shields was seens as being good enough for Chelsea who could pretty much get anyone they wanted, ditto Wilcox who setup a promotion in his only season here. Parsons harder to judge but no question of some improvements off the pitch. As you say, no guarentee Spors is successful but initial signs are promising and recruitment has been our no1 failure the last 2 PL seasons so lots to learn from.

Isn't pretty much every club up for sale for the right amount? The time to be bothered is if/when Solak stops actively investing cash, which is pretty much the only good thing they have done.
  12. Forum legend Brian Stock. Used to post on here as Always SFC I believe.
  13. Fair summary. Why people seem to slag him off is beyond me. Easily good enough to be part of a good team next season and would be very low on my list of players to actively try to get rid of.
  14. Just to check do you mean local lad Will Smallbone who was very good last season in a Saints team that got promoted at Wembley - getting the assist for the winning goal in the playoff final, added to a vitally important goal in the semi final as well?
  15. An example of what good recruitment looks like for a club like ours IMO. Lacking opportunity at a big club despite clear ability, available for almost every game, great attitude despite being harshly dropped for Livramento and often asked to play different roles. Over his time here pretty much all our best attacking performances have involved him driving down the right. Imagine he leaves with the best wishes of all and the fact he has experienced successive PL relegations is harsh on him. One of our best RBs, shame he wasnt around as an option when we replaced Clyne as part of a better Saints team.
  16. So he basically understands the shortlist is all the names mentioned in the media. They taught him well at Football Insider!
  17. Milan van Ewijk - Cov RB - has looked decent when I have seen him.
  18. Paul Warhurst is an interesting name to throw into the proverbial ring.
  19. Maybe we missed our window of opportunity with Rohl. You don't often get a second chance if you are where we are in the food chain. Hopefully with Spors in place we can at least be decisive, whatever that ends up being. But please, not Wagner.
  20. Russell Martin is by far the best appointment SR have made so far and achieved the goal he was given in his full season in charge. At the time I said the mid table stuff was stupid because any job has to be viewed in context and he joined Swansea when their parachute payments ran out and showed he could coach them (and us) to play the way he wanted - something the likes of Jones and Juric both totally failed to do here. As much as he made mistakes this season our recruitment massively failed him and we were all on a hiding to nothing really. As you say, Rohl has done a good job in difficult circumstances and would seem a good option that majority of fans would get behind in part due to his history/hype here. In our situation I think fan and player buy-in are the keys. Martin got both spot on last summer and whoever joins will need to do the same. This is the most important aspect as we will have better players than most clubs anyway - it was clear Martin wouldn't be mid table again and neither would Rohl. Personally not a fan of Cooper, find him extremely dull and think we a more personable man to try to motivate the whole club again. I hope Spors is able to get who he wants, whether that costs £5m in compo or is free.
  21. Check complete - no. Please wait for 'Best Saints Marcelo?' thread.
  22. Candidates include, but are not limited to: Wright, Forbes, Draper, Paul, Dennis, Whitlock, Bitcoin, Hughes, Walters, Fry Note: Markus deemed ineligible
  23. Appreciate slightly early but any plans for the 16th anniversary celebration? Perhaps Duncan could reveal his paperwork alongside a kit launch?
  24. Doing very well at Crawley of late. Some nice goals.
  25. A shame that Sport Republic can't clone Rasmus Ankersen. The team he is Chairman of has gone from strength to strength whilst the two overseen by the now departed Kraft have suffered.
