The one good thing is that there is genuinely a target to aim for and a tangible achievement to be had. Irony being that the target is to spend as little time there as possible.

Genuine question, once Ings made it absolutely clear that he wasn't going to sign a new contract and in a yesr would leave for free, surely it was a no brainer to accept an offer of upwards of £25m for him? The issue is that we couldn't persuade him to re-sign with us and that he wasn't adequately replaced, the decision to sell him was kind of obvious.

Whoever we get, aside from their managerial/coaching skills simply has to be someone who can quickly get the fans onside in the way that both Koeman and Ralph did. Someone who is able to acknowledge and shoulder the expectation/pressure of automatic promotion whilst realising the culture of the club has to be rebuilt simultaneously. Its going to take a big character, and someone with an established reputation, either as a manager or a recently retired player who will command respect. I'm not suggesting any names but clearly its a massive appointment that will set the tone.

Simple - list the top 3 reasons, in that order, that you believe has caused our (almost certain) relegation. IMO: 1. Appointing Nathan Jones Disaster, wasted a mini pre season and used up our best fixture run. 2. Failure to sign goalscorer(s) in the summer Look at our squad, the only players who are capable of semi regular PL goals are Adams and JWP. Nowhere near enough. 3. Failure to sack Ralph in the summer It was clear he was done, and we missed a chance to shift the momentum. As soon as we had a bad spell it was inevitable he would go.
-
Lets be honest, to even give yourselves a hope of depending on other results to stay up we will need to win a minimum of 3 of our last 6 games, most likely 4. Given some of the fixtures I think its clear that tonight simply has to be a win to keep that very tiny possibility of staying up alive. If we suddenly win tonight and away at Newcastle then who knows. But its pretty obvious we aren't good enough to produce a run like that. When we go down it will be a very deserved relegation.
-
Hypothetically: JWP - £40m Lavia - £40m ABK - £25m (cheap for a Germany Intl of his age) KWP - £20m Adams - £15m Salisu - £20m £160m here and could easily end up with others like Livramento, Alcaraz, Sulemana attracting interest and if they did each of those would be for sizeable fees. Obviously we aren't going to sell our whole squad but we will rake in a substantial amount, thats for sure. Therefore when Tella goes it won't be because we are desperate for the cash.
-
Conservatively we will be able to raise £150m through the sales of JWP, Lavia, KWP, Adams and ABK alone. Will also likely end up saving on the high wages of Elyounoussi, Walcott and Armstrong. Financially we should be in a decent enough position not to be forced to accept a deal for Tella for financial reasons. He will go because he will be firm that he wants to.
-
If anyone is qualified to structure the academy and make some good hires its Jason Wilcox. The fact he is incoming is the one positive.
-
Never hear a peep out of Neal Trotman. Always bleating on about Oldham and Halifax FFS.
-
Moving Alcaraz to play deeper would be a pretty dumb move considering he is our main fit goal threat. Not that it really matters. To stay up we will probably need to win 3 games in a row from now and thats not going to happen. The spell under Jones killed us.

Romeo Lavia - Official: Signs for Not Liverpool
Dusic replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
In reality he is worth more than £50m given age, potential and length of contact. Ben White cost £50m. Is Caicedo is supposedly £80m then £50m for Lavia is cheap as he is potentially a generational talent. City should buy him back for £40m and sell Phillips to West Ham for the same. -
Lol. The gap between our best players (JWP, Lavia, KWP, ABK) and our worst (Armstrong, Moi, Perraud) tonight was stark. I can't really recall a Saints team where this was the case as much as in the current team. I mean Lavia to Diallo is like comparing Ings to Lee Barnard. JWP has carried this team for 18 months and deserves better.

Will be interesting to see what SR go for. In theory its an attractive job and a good chance of going straight back up - albeit not helped by the size of the other clubs likely to come down. There is also the fan element. Feels like it needs to be someone who can very quickly get the fans onside.

Lyanco is too volatile and can't defend. What you need in Championship centre backs is consistency at doing the basics well and he is awful at that. Would miles rather keep Bednarek than Lyanco. Given what we will lose, we will need substantial signings in central midfield and at centre back to have a chance. They will need to be starting XI players who are ready to go from minute 1. Our best chance is to make a strong start and that might help the relegation hangover if rhe ones who stay realise they have a good chance of getting back to the PL quickly. A slow start and it will only get worse. In theory players like Edozie and Mara should make a strong impact. Tella was pretty ineffective in the PL and look how he has done once he gained a bit of confidence. Youngster wise...if Ballard and Doyle aren't proper first team squad members then we may as well close the academy. The only positive of being so woeful this season is that they will have had months to plan, so hopefully managerial and key player situations will be resolved quickly.

Relegation - What two teams do we take with us
Dusic replied to Lee On Solent Saint's topic in The Saints
Leicester have some sellable assets that will raise a decent bit of cash plus a few good players who would stay. Forest would be a mess, especially if Cooper goes. I reckon Everton and Forest would be best to drop. -
Co-owner Rasmus Ankersen: "Nathan's xAggression distribution plot shows that his aggression is relentless and edgy and his violent Luton side have recently been promoted to the PL to vindicate his work. He is highly skilled in counter surveillance and has learned a lot since he led our culture workstream in Q1 2023." Nathan is currently rehabbing from a superficial wound sustsined during a bootcamp exercise in Cranborne and once recovered will lead pre season at Llandudno alongside his assistants Neil Trotman and James Bree. In addition to this sought after appointment, the club is delighted to announce the resumption of our partnership with LD Sports.

Good luck to Wilcox because he has a huge job on his hands. - New manager - High profile sales - Deadwood clearance (Lyanco, DCC, Orsic etc) - Key signings to add leadership and Championship knowledge - Taking advantage of the PL loan market - Cultural shift - Updating the Playbook PDF Lets hope he is a.) still joining b.) fully aware of what he is walking into c.) given the space to do his job
-
He will. He would be mad not to, especially in a tournament year. Probably also faces a relegation pay cut. I doubt he has thoroughly enjoyed the last couple of seasons and he isn't that young anymore to waste a season. Assuming he doesn't do it before the end of this season, the Beckham record alone will motivate him to stay in the PL.
-
More chance of Shane Long starting the first game of next season for us than Lavia or JWP.

Recently, Lavia and Livramento both extremely good value pound for pound, especially Lavia who is probably a CL quality player already and cost what you would expect a very good Championship midfielder to be touted for. Aside from the often stated ones, Angus Gunn was a big waste of money.
-
Whwn Burnley sign him in the summer we will make a massive profit and get the kind of fee nobody would have imagined about 3 months ago. A rare loan that has worked out very well.
-
Biggest difference between him and our other options is he gets himself in positions to assist or score (even if he misses many up). He sees himself as a forward and not a midfielder.
-
I don't think we will risk him, especially with a break coming up. I reckon AMN will play RB.
-
Tella will push to leave for Burnley, thats obvious but at least we can now ask for £25m for him. I think clubs will come in for Livramento even despite his injuries. Diallo will surely go as only has a year left and obviously we won't offer him an extension. We will bring in a shitload of cash but will also need to spend a fair bit if we are serious about going straight back up.
