Romeo Lavia - Official: Signs for Not Liverpool
Dusic replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Agree with this as things stand. Anything above 12th would be excellent. Doesn't look like there will be any whipping boys this season and the mid table teams are mostly all on an upward curve. -
I agree he would be a good signing, but he isn't really a huge goal threat. His numbers for Rangers are broadly in line with Armstrong and Elyounoussi for Celtic. If we got him I imagine we would use him as a #10 and like Armstrong and Elyounoussi a fair expectation based on his career so far would be around 5 PL goals. As for most teams outside the top 6 the key signing will be a striker who gets 10+ goals as without that our team will be short on goals - only JWP, Broja and Adams got more than 5 in the league last season.
-
We need to cover loan exits in the B team (Olaigbe, Chauke etc) so he would slot in there I guess. Re Downes...as soon as we got Lavia I think interest in other CMs died.
-
I'm generally unbothered about kits, but IMO this one is great. A unique design rather than template blandness and can see it being popular with the demographic that replica shirts are tailored to, i.e kids (plus those who will buy every shirt regardless of course).
-
Similar profile to Lavia. I don't think we will sign another CM assuming we do get him. If we are interested in Aribo it must be as a #10.
-
Sounds like we will know soon but from this and The Cat I'm guessing he won't be on the list and is moving somewhere else. Hopefully not Morgan too.

https://www.getfootballnewsgermany.com/2022/hoffenheim-interested-in-rb-salzburgs-junior-adamu/ Given recent form you would have to say Delap is the most Saintsy, but also probably would have a few options. Loan makes most sense from City perspective surely.

We are pretty woeful at giving long serving players a good send off. Surely we knew he would be leaving before the final game at St Marys.

The way The Athletic reported it was a bit like with Bazunu, all agreed but probably hasnt done the formalities, medical and actually signed. Anyone know if he had Belgium games and therefore quite possibly still on holiday? Hopefully it gets officially done soon. -
Like the Carl Martin move. Ralph has seen him operate at first team level and also good for the top academy lads (assuming we keep them) that they know him well and vice versa. Will also be interesting to see the coaching setup at U18 level given Martin/Harris worked so well.
-
Not overly sure I believe that. Doyle was pictured by the Saints social media yesterday and also posted a pic of him in the new kit on his IG. Might not mean anything but woukld be odd if he were just about to quit.
-
I don't think so because it could be staggered to enable them to do their fitness checks/testing. Just from the pics there was also no Salisu or Perraud either and unless all of those players you mentioned had imminent moves lined up then there is no real reason to stop them coming in. I am sure the majority of them will appear in the next couple of days. Once they get properly into it, will be very intetesting to see which youngsters are in the first team training.

Seems like it will be difficult to keep him, as Ralph indicated: https://www.hampshirelive.news/sport/football/football-news/ralph-hasenhuttl-tyler-dibling-southampton-7011150 Totally understand that for various reasons we aren't in the business of chucking money at kids (although Lavia isnt a huge amount older and will doubtless be very well paid) but equally a kick in the teeth as clearly a massive talent who isnt that far from first team involvement. As we know well at Saints the best players do tend to debut at 16-18. Lets hope he sees more of a pathway with us, but reports seem to indicate its very close. Will be interesting to see when we announce the new round of scholars as he would ordinarily be part of that alongside JJ Morgan. https://www.midweekherald.co.uk/sport/premier-league-contract-for-local-footballer-8420034 From what Ive read he was offered a scholarship with an automatic pro deal a while back, but seemingly never signed it? Another reason for the end of the season being so frustrated as in other circumstances could have given him some minutes.

If PremSourceTM says it then who are we to argue. 🤣 #ffs

This kid is meant to be excellent. Leeds continuing to go big in the youth recruitment.
-
Just shows that unless we go beyond our £15m barrier there is very little chance of buying more than just potential in England. Even abroad, when you consider we signed players like Tadic, Pelle, Wanyama, even Clasie who despite being unsuited to the PL was Feyenoord captain, Vestergaard who were all fairly established players and key for their clubs - for what we pay we wouldn't get near signing players like that now as the prices have all gone up, especially for the attacking players.
-
Feels like even with our existing squad we would suit a 4-3-3 in theory. In reality, you really need all the front three to be goal threats and we don't have that from our batch of #10s. It would end up as 4-5-1 and the striker would be hugely isolated. Whilst there are issues with the 4-2-2-2 it does enable a press and when done well it does mean we can be a threat on the counter as the ball winners have forward options to pass to. Broja when on form was brilliant in that system. I don't think Ralph will change to 4-3-3 as our wide forwards would spend so much time in their own half rather than the opponents.
-
Would be a huge suprise IMO. Unless he goes to the SPL I would be amazed if we loaned him outside of the EFL, especially after his first loan went so well. From his perspective its far from clear cut that he will make it at Saints so as well as developing, the EFL is a great shop window for him.
-
FWIW seems like he is a sitting midfielder who is athletic and good on the ball who most plays safe in front of the back four. I wonder whether Diallo will still be at Saints come Sept?
-
Colwill is a Soton lad and is quality. Ordinarily we should be all over this, but we can't have too many young CBs which may be why we aren't mentioned.
-
Genuine question...aside from Instagram what does he so that makes you think he is brilliant? I am baffled that anyone could see brilliance in him based on what we have seen so far.
-
Hard to find a more unreliable football media than the Italians but the Turks run them close so would take with a massive pinch of salt. That said, its clear Lyanco isn't PL quality so perhaps this would make sense as I don't see him getting many starts for us, certainly not in the league. Relatively cheap fee but a poor signing.
-
Will be interesting to see if Long returns to training next week. Considering Adams will have an extended break our attack will be interesting in the first friendly or two, even if its behind closed doors games. Even in the first team training sessions. Literally no point giving game time to N'Lundulu as he doesnt have a future at the club. Maybe Ballard will be with the first team to start with. We really do need a couple of starting XI players in the striker and #10 position. With the season starting earlier (and a tough start) we can't afford to wait til deadline day either.
-
Ive not seen much of Awoniyi but seems like he does have those attributes, backed up by the reports on him today. Considering he just scored 15 goals in the Bundesliga, is 24 and was available for less than £18m it seems a good deal. Very intrigued to see who we go for as this signing needs to hit the ground running because JWP aside our output from midfield in terms of goals is so poor.
-
Seemingly we were interested in Awoniyi recently so would be interesting if that changed or he picked Forest over Saints and others. Had a release clause so fee no issue. Guarenteed starts there probably appealing. Suprised we havent been more strongly linked to #10s and strikers seeing as we potentially need 3.
