We have brought in three Prem players on wages far exceeding anything all but two championship clubs can afford. That is the kind of thing you do if you are supporting a promotion push isnt it? Having been relegated, what were you expecting this summer? It sounds like you thought SR would find the funds to keep our star players here on £50-£100k a week and turn down £30-60m offers in the process. Do you not think that's a lot to ask and perhaps your expoectations were a little high? I fully expected us to sell everyone. I fully expected us to retain some players that were seen as not good enough in the Prem. I fully expected us to sign players not seen as good enough for the prem. I fully expected us to spend fuck all really. Maybe my expectation levels were too low, but last time we spent £90k all in, so seeing us invest £10-15m on Charles this time around has been a pleasant surpise. Chin up mate. We are down but not out.

it also mentions that the manager is `cooking' again.

I can't get my head around the fact the deal with Che stalled over their inability to pay £5m up front, yet they could afford a striker twice the price (is it £30m or £20m though?). Even if the payments were spread over the full length of the contract they would still be more than £5m up front, wouldn't they? I was a big Beto fan when we were discussing striker in January window. Not a big scorer of goals, but he will be a lot more robust than DCL. He's a proper unit.
-
Both Saarbrucken and the players agent confirm that Luca Kerber aint moving to Saints, is staying put and will see out his contract, which expires in 2024. I'm slightly disappointed as he looked really good to me, but it's obviously difficult to tell if he could make the step up in leagues.
-
Can he play right down the middle as the solitary striker or is he more of a forward coming in off the wing? If Che goes, do we not need a number 9 type of guy that has the physical attributes to hold the ball up and link the play? Or maybe we don't need that type and just go for good quality players and make that work?
-
yes, Colin Wanker played a flat back four and thought Dijksteel was a better player. Spence then went on to have a brilliant season, helping Forest to promotion whilst Boro floundered, making Colin Wanker, who got the tintack half way through the season, look slightly daft.
-
I will feel a little disappointed, but if you had set your expectations at the start of the summer that all the talent would depart, as I did, then it would not be unexpected at all. You are right, we won't replace with better, but we might replace with players better than the rest in this league and then manage them better to help us get promoted.
-
let's hope he impresses, scores a few goals perhaps and they look to turn the loan into the permanent move.
-
Personally I don't `expect' us to sign a new winger to replace Sulemana, but we may well do that. Wood is in the £10m bracket and I would imagine we'll spend similar of a striker should Che go. Pretty sure these kind of amounts are what I suggested we might spend should `everyone depart', which is still a possibility (admittedly I thought £10m of it would have been on signing Downes).
-
I thought it was about as genuine as his tracking back.
-
he hid it well when missing all those chances at SMS last season. He was flying a couple of seasons before. Not sure where/how it went wrong after that.
-
if we sign Wood, then I feel the club have spent what was needed. Not sure winger has been a priority, but we've bright Fraser in on sizeable wages, so I think they done their duty there. I'm with you on the striker if they don't spend should Che depart.
-
Fraser, Downs and Holgate won't be cheap. Only one or two Championship sides could afford their wages. The same can be said about the £10m+ we've paid for Charles. Our success depends on the players brought to the club. When has it been any different? What exactly did you want the management to do, simply spend more?
-
I suspect there has been lots of enquiries about KWP, but we will have a big price tag on his head too.
-
mentioned it a couple of times on here, the only concern with Spence is that he played so well at Forrest as a wing back and not a right back in a four man defence.
-
Nice will know him inside and out. Not sure why we agreed to a loan - I guess we had no other offers. If they wanted him, make them buy him. Losing him off the wage bill is still good as you can reinvest those wages, which might be £30k a week. I doubt we will bring another left back in, but if we intend to then we should try for Omar Richards at Forrest. Another player like Downes that was too good for the championship but hasn't pinned a Prem place down yet. Was injured all last season, but I think may be fit now. Very good technically and would suit our style or having an attacking left back.
-
the highlights back that up. Glad he had a good game. Exactly what a relegated side like us needs - a player very close to Prem quality to come in and replace the `proven and desirable Prem players' (JWP etc.) going out.
-
didn't get to see the game or follow it on here as was at Victorious festival, but the highlights seem to show quite a few very very good chances for QPR. Were we dominant, but they just happened to have these three or four good opportunities?
-
could you not say that about the majority, if not all of last minute signings that they were `lined up' or `on our list of targets'? There will be the odd late opportunity that we hadn't been considering/bidding for, but deadline day doesn't always mean unscouted/unplanned/last car on the lot etc.
-
all strikers at the cub will be pleased to see some balls coming in rather than being blocked at source.
-
With their efforts to sign my mate Beto, have Everton now moved on? Similar style of striker, big, powerful target men, so would seem to strange to sign both.
-
great to finally have someone that can cross a ball from the left. It's been abysmal for several seasons.
-
Luca Kerber played at FC Saarbrucken as well.
-
He didn't get minutes at all last season. It was the two seasons before.
