I guess I just don't like Perry. He gives everything but its just not good enough for me. Jardi can do little wrong in my eyes. I'm not convinced by Hammond either. This is certainly his level, but without Schneiderlin we look short in the middle of the park.
-
we're not far off score wise, but I think you do Leeds a slight misservice. They were first to the ball everywhere, they ran the centre of midfield, Lambert was nullified completely and they had Waigo next to Thomas the entire game. You're right they did give it away a few times under no pressure at all, but in tricky conditions they were the team coming forward. We competed hard but we were hanging on in thr firdt half at times and but for some timely interceptions by Jardi, and Waigo we would have been carved open. I will say this though that with Schneiderlin in our side it would have bene a different game. For me he is a huge player for us. Much bigger than Hammond thats for sure.
-
Simple. Without question James gave the ball away more than any other player, and thers no comparison between Jardi with Perry. Jardi does his best to bring the ball down and play whereever possible whilst Perry is just terrible in posession so gets rid as quick as possible. I thought Hammond was ineffecyive but didn't give it away all that much. He just never got hold of it. Bart was OK apart from that terrible slice at the end.

he was very very average against Walsall and Leeds IMO. I like him, he's got a great first touch, passes the ball well and is a good footballer. However, he runs like he's in treacle, that short stride of his means he looks quicker than he is, and thats why so many tackles are sliding tackles.
-
spot on. He was massively at fault. He wasn't the only one giving the ball away cheaply. Perry and James' distribution put us on the back foot time after time.
-
do you really think Hammond is CCC standard? Is that the general consensus on here? For me he's a decent footballer, but he's too slow.
-
Beckford looked good to me. Yes he didn't score and yes he had a tantrum when subbed, but he has genuine pace, made excellent runs and had a very good first touch. I'd take him like a shot, but he won't come here.

just back after a long weekend in snowy Harrogate. I have to say we got entirely what we deserved. Totally outplayed in the first half and we didn't improve much in the second. Leeds were decent and on another day they could have taken us apart in the first half. As for us, well our problems stemmed from central midfield where we were very poor indeed. For a long time now I've thought that we have looked a poor side when Schneiderlin was subbed in games and without him starting I think it is obvious to all that we struggle. Often players reputations grow when they are out of the side, but in Schneiderlin's case it is deserved. His replacement James was appauling and that is where we won and lost the game on Saturday. Leeds totally dominated the centre of midfield and that left us with little choice but to whack it down the channels. Why Pardew didn't take James off earlier I will never know. When Gobern came on we got hold of the game and looked like a decent side. I've always thought Gobern would make a central midfielder and on those 8 or 9 minutes he certainly will. Bart 7 one decent save, overall solid, one appauling kick out at the end that had fans tearing their hair out. Thomas 6 Had his hands full. Showed good strength to cover his lack of pace. Jardi 8 Held thigs together Perry 6 Slow and very average in the air. Get Trottman back in the middle. Harding 7 Another solid display. Lallana 6 some great stuff, especially ball retention and trickery, but not enough of it and now and then was too easily robbed. Held his position out wide. James 1 woeful, gave the ball away continuously Hammond 4 just never got hold of the game Waigo 2 nothing going forward and didn't track his runner leaving Thomas short. Lambert 4 largely annonimous. Connelly 8 Worked his socks off, brilliant first touch, and held the ball up well. Gobern 8 kept the ball and passed it well Antonio 6 did pretty well Trottman 7 caused them problems when we went long

Should Pardew rest players in JPT game ahead of Leeds?
Chez replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
Very interesting question. The league is the priority for me and we need to protect players as it is a busy schedule. Any changes are not going to be for kids they are for fringe players like Mellis and Mills who are always on the bench and would actually benefit from a full game. We are going to need these guys to start at some point down the line so the more game time they get now the better. I'd rest all four players on four yellows, Perry and Lambert, who looks a little tired to me. Connelly should also be treated with kid gloves. I think Mellis deserves to get some game time as he was looking decent before he went away wih the England U19s. Mills needs this game to keep his eye in case we lose Harding at some point. Patterson was lambested for his earlier showings, but I still feel he is a great prospect and if Lambert is injured he might just step up to the plate. If Davis was fit (he's not) he would come in to get him back in the swing of thigs. Bart James Trottman Thomas Mills Antonio Hammond Mellis Lallana Waigo Patterson -
in which case you have missed out on one or two unvelievable performances such as at Bristol Rovers and Leyton Orient where he came on and completely murdered the opposition with his pace and physical strength. I agree with you that there are serious doubts as to whether he will cut the mustard in the CCC, but in this league he is a handful even if he hasn't got the ball under control half the time. Widemen in general are eratic and frustrating, so you need to cut them some slack anyway. What us fans must not do is get on the lads back. He's only 19, on loan, playing his first season at this level and giving everything to OUR cause. Apart from anything he is great to watch (Saturday apart - by far and away his worst game for us). You just don't know what teh lad is going to do next and whether it turn out to be super or **** at least he goes for it. Think about Neil McCant and the woeful lack of pace and confidence to ever take someone on. At least Antonio is not that.

Jermaine Wright left the club in the summer + some mistakes in recent times that lead directly to goals = wipping boy
-
it was bloody great wasn't it. I think we've all enjoyed ourselves a great deal in recent times but I think at that moment everyone just felt proud really of the club and the way we were playing again. Hope this continues for a long long time. We are on a roll and I wonder where it will stop. The Premiership?
-
I agree that we are not playing as well as we did against Gillingha, but the the quality we have up front is getting us the wins and that same quality will be there against Leeds. My concern wouldbe that we are tonking almost everyone, but we have yet to beat any of the top 6 sides in the league, and those 6 seem to settled now and will all present real tests. Can't wait for Saturday. A shame this game was not later in the season. I'd of loved tonhave seen us to 3 or 4 tousand up there.
-
I'm not a fan, but as a second string keep hes pretty decent. Compare him to Franchise FC's first choice keeper and he starts to look very good. I have to say his wrong foot kicking yesterdy was excellent.
-
spot on. People need to cut him some slack. He has been terrific for us and people must remember that going past defenders is the hardest thing in the game apart from scoring and there are going to be days when you just don't manage it. At Leed I think Waigo should start out wide and then bring Antonio on. He is the best impact sub I've seen down here.
-
Has he really got five yellows? Will leave us short in the middle. Wotton all game. ****. BTW If he had got sent off then he'd get more than the one one game suspension.

Derry?

you need glasses.

yesterday if Man City would allow it.
-
Logan would be my number one target. Extremely impressed by him,but City aren't going to let him go.
-
Not sure how you came to that conclusion based on those 7 minutes. He hardly touched the ball and when he did he kept posession. Where do you sit, cos you see a bloody different game from me.
-
derry do you ever stop prattling on about width? There was absolutely nothing wrong with either Antonio or Lallana's positional play. Neither came inside. Antonio had a poor game, but his pace was nullified by Bakayogos pace not his positional play. Lallana didn't come narrow at all. He failed to have an impact simply because we never passed to him. He saw absolutely nothing of the ball and spent a lot of energy keeping the terrific Shaleum Logan under wraps when he overlapped. I wish you'd stop moaning about him coming inside. When he does drift in it is often to our benefit anyway. Our failure to shine today was because our widemen were nullified by Tranmere. The opposition deserve credit for this. You won't see a better right back all season. The left back wasn't bad either.
-
the only save he had to make was a weak header straight at him. He came and missed one cross and caught another two corners.
-
give some credit to the opposition. They had two terrific fullbacks that both had genuine pace that stopped our widemen doing what they do best. I think also you are far too harsh on Antonio. He s raw and doesn't do the basics well, but he's a terrific impact player and offers something a little different. I doubt you were saying these things at Bristol or Leyton Orient a few months ago.
