Surely it depends on how good the quality is, not the capacity..?

Ah the familiar conventional cry of the bike loather and statitician. Bikers are nasty people and what's more I have the evidence to prove it. Fine. I know, and we all know, that there are motorcyclists out there who are just waiting for the next opportunity to have an accident. It's just a matter of time for them. But don't think for one second that it's even a substantial minority. There's loads of bikers who just want to get away from cars. Just get out of the flaming way, and we'll leave you, very quickly, to stew in perfect peace in your traffic jams.

Good advice. Under no circumstances put any liquids of any kind [most certainly not washing up liquid] onto vinyl records. There is an inherent lubricant within the vinyl that allows the record to disengage from the master. This can be removed or substantially reduced if any liquids are applied, and any clicks and pops of any nature are then transmitted louder. However, a record has to be in a thoroughly poor state if it refuses to play through. Treat your records well - you can eventually bring them back from a previous click/poppy condition with an appropriate dust brush applied every time before playing - and they will give you many decades of listening pleasure. In fact, unlike some CDs, you'll be passing them on to your younger relatives. BTW, don't play your records on something you can buy from Comet/Currys etc... with it's own pre-amp. That's kiddies stuff, and rubbish. Spend a little proper dosh and you'll be surprised how good they sound. Good budget stuff are a Dual CS515, Rega Planar2 or 3, Thorens TD160 with arm, Linn Basik. That sort of thing. Most of it is very well made and can be got second hand. EDIT: In fact, I see Mighty Saint is selling a budget starter turntable that would be good enough - the Dual CS415. Not bad at all. In a few years time you can buy a Linn Sondek, and then throw the rest of your CDs away.

I was so nearly tempted to do that myself during the last election. I was actually in the booth thinking about writing it on the paper. Voted obediently instead. I think I bloody well will do it this time.

HTH http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/oled.htm EDIT: The ones you linked to are another step in the direction of LCD technology, by having them back lit by LEDs, which use less power than a lamp. OLEDs use even less power, and are supposedly far more accurate in the overall picture. Anyway, read the How It Works article.

Bloody hell, I didn't for a moment think you meant one of those. Besides, I didn't think the technology had moved on enough, just yet. Time passes, when you're not paying attention.

Give a us review in the Arts forum afterwards. I hear that the new film is not only a good one for one of the series, it's supposedly a good film outright.

If you skip back a few months you'll find the answer to your question. The quick answer is that Plasma TVs use twice as much power as an old equivalent sized CRT TV, and LCDs [not LEDs] use half the amount of power as old CRTs. So unless you're Saint George, or have a generator and a forest, the no brainer is an LCD TV, if you're going to have one or the other. Quality is dependant upon manufacturer. Do a lot of research.

That's a shame mate, as the onion is probably the numero uno vegetable in the kitchen. I find that throwing food down my neck too quickly, and not chewing it sufficiently leaves me with a problem. When I go sailing for a day I buy a fair bit of prepared pastry food, like sausage rolls. They can sometimes give me enough heartburn to warm a decent sized home.

Yes indeed. suspended in deep freeze... I refer you both to post 1045. With this number of posts in a thread, almost every topic of conversation has been covered.

Nope, sorry Deppo. That goes down as a whoosh too. Should I have got that one..?

Knowing a couple of your likes and dislikes, I get the impression the subject didn't matter to you. It has to, to carry you through the film. You definitely have to give the film your full attention, otherwise you will become bored. Sorry you didn't like it. BTW, you're on the wrong thread.

Wanted to watch something on the BBC iPlayer, but it kept crapping out, so I found solace in Youtube. The first thing I came across was some Marcus Brigstocke standup, and he was funny, in an overtly clever way. Then there was some Michael McIntyre. I've been laughing and snorting pretty much for the last hour or so, and my facial muscles ache. I think that's praise indeed. Ever since McIntyre appeared just a few years back, I've found him reasonably funny, but this has been my first go at properly watching a few of his performances. And he's absolutely hilarious. Excellent comedy.

Nope, don't know the lyrical return for that one. You've really got me. BTW, been listening to a bit more Peter Gabriel tonight. And 10cc [

I agree. Typically unambitious choice by Saints, but if PS had stayed on, I think he would have kept us up, and perhaps a little more. Certainly had the tactical nous IMO, just not the required image of a Premiership manager. Couldn't take the stress though, so they say. I think the first signs of his Parkinson's was waiting in the wings. Wrong manager, but he got my respect.

Do you think it's going to last..?

And there was I thinking life is a minestrone, served up with parmesan cheese. Blimey, you learn something new every day.

'Doing a Southampton' is the new 'Doing a Leeds'...
St Landrew replied to Minty's topic in The Saints
Reading that article, the gaulling thing is that Saints were an established Premiership club. It was all the rule changes and restrictions that worked against the club during the 80's and 90's that led it down the path to a new stadium, and gross mismanagement. I read Duncan's post on I Blame Hitler... with a chuckle. Great stuff. But it's also true that there were other mitigating circumstances. First, the search for a new stadium site. Duncan mentioned it, and it was the gross failure to get one found and built that meant Saints really felt the bite when the league clubs decided to keep all the home gate. Next, the ground safety restrictions meant 15,251 at The Dell was way under what was needed to stay competitive. Then the glamour of the Premiership meant that the big teams would get the most exposure, and with it most of the money. So the rich got richer. But Bolton did it. Middlesbrough did it. Huddersfield did it, Stoke and Hull City, and some others I can't think of at present. They all built impressive stadiums by some means or other, and haven't gone out of business, despite not being ever present in the Premiership, or at all. And to compare Saints with Leeds is to completely wash over the detail. Sure, the end has been similar, but Leeds hit the high spots. They really went for it in a big way, and spent huge amounts of money. I can't honestly see where Saints did, and we certainly didn't live the dream. Post the FA Cup, I thought that was on its way. The bank manager did end up picking the team, didn't he Rupert..! -
People who over-exaggerate EVERYTHING
St Landrew replied to Thorpe-le-Saint's topic in The Muppet Show
Isn't ranting about people you don't really know, or can switch off at the touch of a button, rather over exaggerating the issue..? -
OK, your thread is back with you. Good to read you have made some progress.
-
Oh bollix. No, I completely forgot..! I apologise. Would you like me to start a thread or have you resolved your problem..?

I'm a little surprised mate. Yes, we should definitely be looking to the future, but there are several skeletons in the SFC cupboard, and practically all of them produced by gagging orders, deceptions or rumour. I don't think we can just wipe the slate clean. SFC needs to learn from these errors, and we'll only feel absolutely right again about our club if it comes clean with us. Then we can finally move on and forget about the whole sorry last 5 years.
-
OK, one more. Pink Floyd and The Narrow Way. Excellent, and so very much better than their later dirge like stuff.
-
Indeed, an excellent summary of the near future for SFC.
