Apologies if this has already been covered, but I find it interesting what exactly went wrong for their goal. As soon as Sunderland got possession our defense was imbalanced - Clyne and Fonte pressed high, while Yoshida and Shaw defended deep. As a result there was plenty of space to be onside behind Clyne making him look like the fool. But how does the zonal marking work - in our team or in any professional team like that? Who decides how the defensive line moves, what rules are coached? Clyne and Fonte were looking towards the sideline and would just have to assume that Yoshida and Shaw were following their line. Yoshida and Shaw could see Fonte and still went deep - Shaw had to do so, as it would have made no sense to leave Yoshida alone. But why did Yoshida drop deep? My gut feeling is that he was to blame for the goal. Not looking for a scapegoat though (I rate Yoshida highly) but I want to gain an understanding of the goal. Anyone in here who can explain how a zonal defense works. Or are we just a bunch of opinionated ignorants with absolutely no knowledge of how a football team works?

Worst game ever in the history of football and Adkins would obviously be out of his depth in any of the 92 clubs in the FL! Exaggerations ftw...

To me, we look like an exciting and good side today - if we keep it up, we will get an equaliser. Sunderland are well organised defensively, but we have the patience to break them down. There is everything to play for in this game and I'd keep the pessimism at bay at least until the final whistle. COME ON YOU SAINTS!!!

Aalborg BK. Never been good at managing their finances, but they've taken 3 championships off the Copenhagen clubs over the last 20 years or so. Always good fun - they play entertaining football and one week they'll outplay the league leaders only to collapse in spectacular fashion the next week. Great value for money Strangely enough they are only a distant second to Saints...

The worst part is that the argument of first team football isn't really valid at Pompey - there is no other club in the history of football that has shown such reluctancy in playing their youngsters. They'd rather bankrupt themselves by bringing in expensive mercenaries than play their youth!

From the data available to the public, this SarahPFC makes some very sensible observations and interpretations. The PDT won't tell anything about community involvement, but she is looking at the absence of ripples around the PDT - and that might very well be a telling sign. However, it has to be said that a number of nutjobs too have remarked this over the last week; if the PDT had the slightest bit of succes they'd be shouting it from the rooftops...
