  1. Yes the point is about "global warming" is that it does NOT matter. The Earth has been changing for tens of millions of years, different species have "ruled" the Earth and have been and gone. So what if the human race dies out? The Earth doesn't exclusively belong to us does it? We're just here as we've evolved with the climate and food on offer over the last 10,000 years. The Earth and other species were here a long long time before we were, and will be here a long long time after we've been here. I couldn't give a stuff if the climate changes, because it will anyway in the next 10s of thousands of years, regardless of what we try to do now as humans. The Earth will continue to live as long as the Sun does and there will always be a species who will "rule" it. Why does it have to be Humans for eternity more? It doesn't. So, if we wipe out the Human, big deal. Bring on the next evolution of whatever species will cope with the warmer/colder/wetter/whatever the climate is.
  2. Fair play to the Echo and to Wotte for finally stepping up the plate to answer the questions being asked. But why has it taken so long? Maybe members of this forum are just more nosey than certain people in the club give them credit for!
  3. If it wasn't for the pesky kids, I'd have gotten away with it ...
  4. I've got this; http://www.slimdevices.com/pi_duet.html Great piece of kit and looks nice too with the screen on the remote control. Use it to stream music from my storage drive, plus also for internet radio - connected via optical to my Bose system. Sounds fantastic and is really easy to use.
  5. Two things; firstly you'll not be able to manipulate this forum on Leon's behalf in the manner Wilde and to some extent Lowe did, in the past. People are far too wise to that now on here. Secondly these people willing to support Leon, but not Wilde and Lowe. I don't buy this. Where were they when Leon had 8 (or was it longer?) months in charge? Also if they really wanted to give the club some money what's to stop them doing it on the insistence that Wilde/Lowe etc step down?
  6. Only on the wallet and the risk of stroke
  7. I hope he mops up after himelf?
  8. Just in case anyone wants it, Waterstones have a "I can has cheezburger?" book with all the pictures and captions in. I wasn't stood in the shop chuckling at it and I haven't bought it for anyone, honest. Aha >>> http://www.amazon.co.uk/I-Can-Has-Cheezburger-Icanhascheezeburger-Com/dp/0340977574
  9. Are Woolworths really celebrating 250 years serving the public? If true, a very sad loss ...
  10. I don't understand this? When my ex-wife's Nan was ill, they had a company come round and install a reconditioned stairlift inc. rails, free (I think it was charitable), but dealt with via the NHS (as this was in Scvnthorpe, I assume North Lincs PCT?). Then when she unfortunately died a few months later, the same company came and took the whole lot back - they said they would reuse it all elsewhere. I assume as a lot of houses in that area are the same size, build and so on that this wouldn't be an issue.
  11. What a fantastic weekend :-|
  12. I just suddenly became ill! I'll leave it there if that's okay :-)
  13. Only twice, thank goodness. Once when two cars over took me on the A31 past Ringwood (I had 2 passengers otherwise that wouldn't have happened ) the second car was tailgating the first car, once past me tried to undertake, but the first car pulled in. Hence second car had to take evasive action, hit the edge of the road and flipped multiple times right in front of me landing upside down. Therefore; emergency services were called ASAP. Second time was an ambulance for me
  14. "Jan: Were Not Playing Like a Relegation Side" No, we were not playing like a relegation side. But we are now. (sorry, couldn't resist the grammar dig as it makes the statement more truthful)
  15. Having read the article and basing my facts only on what I've read; it would appear to me that the MD needs to do a "back to the floor" week. It seems that the routes are not well enough planned to allow time to cash up and rest between them which means the drivers probably do have a basis to complain. There is obviously a requirement for some analysis of how they all work and interact and then a process that needs fixing/amending or even to be created. I love business transformation ...
  16. Thank god, finally! F1 days before refuelling was introduced was much better and I remember (probably rose-tinted of course) better racing, more overtaking etc etc etc. I hate watching now and wondering if x is faster than y and z because they have much less fuel and not thinking it's driving talent, or indeed a better car. Great move.
  17. Another nail in the coffin for supporting football in this country. If I want to watch something sterile with no interaction with the crowd or players, I'll go and watch tennis.
  18. Er?? Pot and kettle Mr. MLT!
  19. As he's seen working hard in the gym pretty much every day, I would say he's pretty fit. Would be worth seeing if he's up to much on the football field still!?
  20. Great post - sounds weird, but reading that sort of post helps to keep the "spirit of Southampton" burning inside me. I don't feel that the situation the club is currently in is all bad, as the younger lads learn to play with each other week in week out, we may well start seeing more results go our way. The Plymouth match for example - fine example of the sort of match previous to this year that we would have been "unlucky to lose". Can't make Charlton for personal reasons, but really really wishing I could be there! Come on Saints!
  21. No they don't. Sorry mate! As long as the company pays the correct amount of VAT to HMRC they can charge what they like for the goods. So effectively by not passing on the VAT cut to the consumer, shops (and the club!) can increase their margins. This is what the VAT cut is really aiming to do. Aiming to get company profits up, meaning they have more money to spend on expansions and the hiring of staff. Hiring more staff helps the economy in more ways than one.
  22. Yes, fine idea. But again, it seems to be a pick on the consumer approach and avoid targeting the causes of too much rubbish - supermarkets, other shops and manufacturers. Why, if I want to buy some pears, do I have a choice of; loose pears, pears in a bag, or 4 pears in a tub, with plastic on top, wrapped in more plastic. What is the point in the latter? Can the government not ban this sort of pointless packaging? I mostly shop at my farm shop for fruit, veg, meat, bread etc., but on the occasion I visit a supermarket, I must be a "pain" for the shop staff as I keep everything loose in my basket/trolley
  23. Just because you and Essruu have joined the local Muslim support group, no need to take it out on everyone else is there?
  24. Yes. If you are travelling to a place other than your "normal place of work", you can claim, from HMRC (only by filling in a tax return) petrol allowance from home to your "normal place of work" as your company (whether your own, or one you are employed by) won't/shouldn't actually pay that bit. There is probably someone who can articulate that better than I, look on the HMRC website. I've used it in the past and claimed back a fair bit.
  25. This is the best "policy" on offer, by a long way. It makes the most sense and would indeed help pretty much everyone by giving them more spending power. But, as JFP rightly pointed out, the VAT decrease will benefit businesses more who already have large sales on, who don't have to drop prices and can relax a bit, gain more revenue AND profit margain and expand/hire more staff and the economy starts to move again that way. So I can understand a VAT cut from that perspective as average Joe on the street will not notice it. Of course a council tax free would really help wouldn't it?
